A number of people have been shot in an attack on a nightclub in Orlando,Florida, police have confirmed, with local reports claiming at least one gunman has barricaded themselves in the building with hostages.

Shots were fired at the Pulse Club, an LGBT nightclub in the city, in the early hours of Sunday. Staff at the venue posted on Facebook: “Everyone get out of pulse and keep running”.

Orlando police said the shooting had resulted in “multiple injuries” and urged people to stay away from the area. Local reports suggested as many as 20 people could have been injured in the attack, and video footage shared on social media showed a high police presence around the club.

One man who claimed he was inside the club said people were “screaming that people are dead”. “They are just pulling people out in stretchers loading them up,” he said. “Please god let everyone make it – tonight was supposed to be a fun night!! One more minute and we would of been shot or worse.”

One witness told Sky News there were more than 100 people inside the venue for the club’s Latin night when the gunman entered the building and began firing into the ceiling and into the crowd. He could not confirm if there was only one or multiple gunman.

“We just heard shots, it was less than a minute, it felt longer,” Ricardo Negron said. “There was a brief pause and we just ran. Everybody was just faces to the floor. I had someone over me, I really didn’t see [how many gunmen there were]. All I can tell you was the club was packed, there were over 100 people there.”

In a Facebook post, Negron wrote that the shooter opened fire at about 2am and “people on the dance floor and bar got down on the floor”. He said some people near the bar and back exit managed to escape quickly.

You kum-ba-ya types can continue to think what you want, regarding these animals.   Personally, I feel they should be eradicated.

What does the word Gay in the title have do with anything.  Gay, 20 people are dead who cares about their sexual preference at this point.  The US as a nation until we are the point of saying 20 peopl

Well watching a direct news report by the Police or whoever are in control, it states the Gunman is dead......There  are hostages dead...Many injured....and they do not rule out an internal or external ''Terror'' act.....That is about as much they would reveal..

So, this is a horrific event despite where you stand on any issues. I've got many lesbian and gay friends and some family - not understanding the hate some portray.

Anyway, politically speaking, I am switching between Fox and CNN, and BOTH are ready to pounce on their agenda.

On CNN, you hear a lot of "hate crime" hope, while on Fox, they are spouting off radical Islamic terror.

IMHO, with the FBI on scene, and how they handled it, with the amount of victims shot, and the raid, sounds like no matter what the motive was - this was an execution and not a "hostage" event. 20 dead and 40 with wounds (some might not be gunshot of course).

Makes you realize how divided this country is.

Radical Muslim attack, supports Trump and his border - and stop Muslims from entering

Gay hate crime supports Hillary and how all those right wing gun nuts are full of hate (muslims with radical leanings kill gays and all hate them and those pesky woman, jesus people don't want them married...there is a difference)

Prayers out for those killed :(

Or maybe the club owner's jilted lover came back with a weapon.  Or maybe some nutcase saw a large group and decided to kill some.  Just because it's a homo club doesn't make it a hate crime.  Prayers to the injured and the families involved.

Would we say 20 dead at a Hetorsexual club?

Would we say 20 dead at a Black Club?

Would we say 20 dead at a White Club?

Then why?  It makes for good news..  Tired of this and feel for the families that lost loved ones.

R.I.P.

i've never understood the entire hate crime thing

if they want to have some specific criminal charges based on hate crime legislation they should just make them an automatic rider whenever anyone is charged with killing or assualting some otherwise innocent person

A white club would be considered racist - just saying.

A white club would be considered racist - just saying.

Exactly and the others have some underlying criteria that makes it not a racist thing to say.

Because this topic is in the Open Forum lets keep this topic away from Debate on Guns, Religion or US Politics.  Keep it on the subject that is given.  Because there are no confirmed reports of terrorism so again keep it to the facts.  Do not want to move this topic.

Shooter identified as Omar Mateen.

Entire article: http://www.abc15.com/news/national/mass-casuality-situation-following-shooting-at-orlando-nightclub-shooter-dead

"At a press conference on Sunday at 7 a.m., FBI assistant agent in charge of the agency's Tampa division Ron Hopper was asked if the shooter, who was shot and killed by police, had ties to Jihadist terror groups. "At this time we're looking at all angles right now." the official said. "We do have suggestions that that individual may have leanings towards that, that particular ideology. But right now we can’t say definitively so we’re still running everything around”

The FBI also said the shooter "was organized and well-prepared," adding "he is not from this area." Police identified the shooter as Omar Mateen of St. Lucie County, Florida.

Officials at the press conference said a police officer working at the club responded to shots fired at 2:02 a.m., and the officer then exchanged fire with the gunman.

It then turned into "a hostage situation," when the gunman when inside the club and took hostages. The gunman had an assault rifle, handgun and "some kind of device on him." At approximately 5 a.m., the SWAT team made the decision to rescue the hostages, officials said. The shooter was killed in a gunfight with those officers.

There were about 320 people inside the club at the time of the shootings, officials said.

Then at 5:53 a.m. Orlando police tweeted, "The shooter inside the nightclub is dead," referring to Pulse Nightclub.

"This can be classified as a domestic terror incident," Orange County Sheriff Jerry Demings said at the press conference.

And the Florida Dept. of Law Enforcement is investigating this morning's shooting as "an act of terrorism." It said it will determine if it is "domestic or international" terrorism."
