Tullioz 3,148
As I understand it, If he is in her presence and she is unsupervised he has broken the law. Remember the foreigner who was escorting a girl at the ferry terminal (or was it the bus station?) a few months back and was arrested? There was a lot more to that story. He was under surveillance for several days prior to his arrest and he was staying alone in a hotel with the minor among other things
Headshot 29,353
He is older than that. I think 60+ And Canadian. Ask him this... If she lied to him about her age...a fact that could get him thrown in prison...then what else has she and her family lied to him about? True love and a lasting relationship cannot be built on a foundation of lies. He may think he loves her, but there is no future there. He needs to back away QUICKLY and start looking for a more honest woman that would honor him rather than endanger him.

Tullioz 3,148
What good is bail to him? He needs to leave Now, while he can and before the family become part of the relationship I agree. He should take the advice that has been given and either wait until she is 18, or better yet, find a girl who is already of legal age and not a liar which this girl obviously is. Once again, You have entirely missed the point. He is Already been dating her, He needs to walk Run away from this relationship, Now and leave the country before any charges are filed against him
Paul 55,114
A guy came here to meet his online girlfriend. After being here a few weeks he finds out she lied about her age and wont be 18 for a few more months. They seem to be happy together and want to get married. He wants to know if the being in the company of a minor issue is just being alone with her. I told him about the guy there in Cebu who was arrested while living with a girl and her parents. Question is how did that turn out did they continue to press charges? My recommendation was to take some time away and come back when she is 18 in about 3 months but is that really necessary? I don't remember all the details of the case and no idea how it turned out. Three months is no big deal. Just make sure the family is with them when they go anywhere, when they ARE anywhere together. Deal with that for three months, then you are good. I dated a girl who was 17 before. Her mother was with us EVERYWHERE we went. No problems, ever, by anyone.
Tullioz 3,148
That's not correct. The legal age for marriage in The Philippines is 18 with consent. A judge, a minister or any other person authorized by the Government of the Philippines can perform the marriage. Marriage applicants aged 18 to 21 must have written parental consent. Applicants aged 22 to 24 must have received parental advice. Philippine law prohibits the marriage of individuals under the age of 18. Source There's an exception for moslems, but what price one's soul? Actually that exemption applies to all Lumad and ethnic groups whose cultures allow marriage below the age of 18 found in the Philippines. Since that defines a majority of the population, then most Filipinos are exempt from the 18 years of age requirement.
Paul 55,114
You people are blowing this "lie" thing out of proportion. Many girls say they are "running" such and such an age. Others say they ARE such and such an age, simply because they WILL be that age soon enough. She lied about her age, shy three months. Big deal. What have any of YOU ever lied about?
Tullioz 3,148
Once again, You have entirely missed the point. He is Already been dating her, He needs to walk Run away from this relationship, Now and leave the country before any charges are filed against him That's what I was agreeing to. The advice from everyone so far has pretty much been to get away or at least wait until she is 18.

Paul 55,114
If he is an American his act could land him in US federal prison. Only if he screws her. If they are in the company of family whenever they are together, they are fine. If he doesn't touch her until she is 18, just wait the three months. No biggie. If he wants to be a bit more secure, just don't really go anywhere with her. Visit with her only around her family. Don't go anywhere alone. Don't even be in a room alone with her until she is 18. Otherwise, it could become a big deal. Sad part is, a Filipino can get a girl pregnant at 12, 14, whatever. Nothing ever happens to his dumb ass, even after he has hauled ass on her, avoiding his responsibility. Nothing that would get someone arrested Well, people here are making a mountain out of a mole hill. If he is an American Citizen, AND if he really wants to be with her, he can wait three lousy months. He can still hang out with her in the company of her family, and be perfectly legal.
+RogerDuMond 13,854
Nothing that would get someone arrested Remember that someone has to file a complaint. Do as Paul says and have momma go with them if they go out. Momma would much rather have a husband for her daughter than a few pesos.
Paul 55,114
I agree with your post, but there is bail allowed if charged for being with a minor. Dude, you REALLY need to stop giving bad / inaccurate / wrong advice to others. This guy has enough to go on. If he has further inquiries for his friend, he can start another topic.
