As I said in the first post she will be 18 in about 3 months. Sometime in Feb.

So what?  The law does not care if the girl turns 18 tomorrow, today she's 17 you play with her and you are guilty.  The risk your friend is taking is huge.  When they put you in jail for these things it can take years to get out and there is no bail.  The advice given by others is very valid.  If the man has a brain he will flee the country and stay away from her until she is of legal age.  Even then, if someone wants to cause him trouble they could punish him for his current actions.

If it was not pay for play he may not have commited a crime under Philippine law. Perhaps your friend should ask himself what kind of life He will have married to a woman who was lying to Him before they even met. When He gets back to his home country then He may be in trouble.

I think that you better go read philippine law, before you start giving advice

You can start here  http://www.chanrobles.com/republicactno7610.html#.Vl53p3arRhE

It can be huge trouble !  best plan of action right now is to get away until she turns legal age . Make sure he helps the family NOW to prevent any charges from being pressed with the under standing he will return .

Once shes 18 he can do whatever he wants but until that day he is putting himself in great danger of being arrested or of being forced to hand over money to keep the family quiet .

You guys are a tough crowd.

Hell my first love was only 13...

OK so I was only 14 at the time...

And that would be entirely legal in the RP.

My recommendation was to take some time away and come back when she is 18 in about 3 months but is that really necessary?
That would be my recommendation at a minimum.  But then, I'm not fond of kanon and buwad 3 times a day.

You should also suggest he join the forum so we can berate him directly.

Whoops, 1 additional note.  If he's 27 or younger then he's fine and forget everything we've said.  We are all assuming he's older than that but that might not be the case.

If he is an American his act could land him in US federal prison.

Cross-border travel for sex. The PROTECT Act, §105(a)(b), establishes an age of consent of 18 for travel into or out of the country or between states for the purpose of a sexual encounter. If a person lives in a state where the age of sexual consent is, for example, 16 and is dating a 16- or 17-year-old in another state where the age of consent is also 16, that would violate this federal law, even though any particular activity the two people may engage in would be legal in both their states.

This law also makes it illegal for a foreign married couple in which one or both spouses is under 18 to honeymoon in the United States! The law does not apply to a foreign visitor who leaves the United States in order to have a sexual encounter with a juvenile elsewhere.

Sex outside the country. The PROTECT Act, §105(a)©, modified the law against "sex tourism" and establishes an age of consent of 18 for Americans engaging in any sexual encounter outside the USA. Thus, even in places where it is legal and socially acceptable for an adult to date an adolescent, an American doing so is subject to prosecution for it by the US government. There is no exception for marriage, so an American of any age marrying anyone under 18 in another country, even with the blessings of the parents and with a legitimate marriage license from the local jurisdiction, is breaking this law.

Short answer:  YES

Long answer is not necessarily. With her parents permission, they could get married.

As I understand it, If he is in her presence and she is unsupervised he has broken the law. Remember the foreigner who was escorting a girl at the ferry terminal (or was it the bus station?) a few months back and was arrested?

I agree with your post, but there is bail allowed if charged for being with a minor.

That's not correct. The legal age for marriage in The Philippines is 18 with consent.

A judge, a minister or any other person authorized by the Government of the Philippines can perform the marriage.  Marriage applicants aged 18 to 21 must have written parental consent. Applicants aged 22 to 24 must have received parental advice. Philippine law prohibits the marriage of individuals under the age of 18. Source

There's an exception for moslems, but what price one's soul?

What good is bail to him?

He needs to  leave Now, while he can and before the family become part of the relationship :idontknow:
