LBANY — More than 2,900 retired state and local government workers are earning pensions of at least $100,000, according to data released Thursday.

For the sixth year in a row, former SUNY Albany President George Philip received the largest payment — $261,649, figures compiled by the Empire Center show.

The data is posted on seethroughny.net.

Philip also served as executive director of the state Teachers’ Retirement System.

He was one of 10 retirees pulling in more than $200,000.

In all, 2,931 ex-workers topped the $100,000 mark for the fiscal year ending March 31, up from 2,700 the previous year.

Total pension payments to the 394,000 retirees in the state and local governments outside New York City reached $9.7 billion, compared to $9.3 billion the year before.

Civilian retirees with at least 35 years of service averaged annual checks of $52,517, compared with $89,657 for cops and firefighters.

But these parasitic c**** are set for life!

If these bastard lose their jobs why don't they have to get another job like the rest of us?! :wheel:

People will revolt, sooner or later - probably late (after they get their cut).

The residents of Chicago are looking at a city tax hike, a county tax hike and a state tax hike all at the same time.  Some of these hikes are to make contributions to pension funds.  I think all gov't employees ought to go into 401(k) plans rather that defined benefit plans.  There's no reason to hike taxes on the current population to pay for somebody else's retirement plan, anymore.

So you are begrudging a police officer or a fighfighter getting more than a used car salesman, a Walmart employee, a 711 employee..................

A cap on public employee pension payouts is needed.  It's difficult to justify average folks being increasingly taxed to support unreasonable pensions.

Highly paid individuals need to have their pension payments capped. If they were so highly paid, they should have saved for retirement like the average joe.

Yes, I agree, pension plans should be done away with and all moved to self-financed 401k plans. However, Congress needs to be moved to uh-bummer-care and 401k plans... but that's gonna happen about as fast as pensions being switched to 401k's. Pensions are closely aligned with unions, and unions take care of their own, so don't expect changes to pension plans.

Nope, I don't think public employees like police and firemen should be paid more than their co-worker public employees who happen to be a plumber, welder, or electrician... all skilled trades.

This is a completely new world as compared to the 40's and 50's when pensions likely served a purpose. There is simply no place for tax-supported pensions anymore.

It is common practice in the USA to promote firefighters and policemen just before they retire in order to get a larger pension!
