The middle of nowhere on a hill over looking the ocean next to a mall will do for my wife and I.

If a sari-sari can substitute for a mall the possibilities increase dramatically.

Yup ... but at my age and circumstances ... let's add

a supermarket,

a hospital with a good pediatrician,

a nearby highway with taxis/jeepneys,

wifi and cable television,

a dentist,

a good private school,

a decent pharmacy,

neighborhood barber,

a bbq/lechon manok/liempo vendor,

near a massage place,

near to where I can pay for the cable, phone, electricity, and water,

gasul delivery,

bottled water delivery,

near to where I can get dvd's on the cheap,

near to a Jollibee/McD's/pizza place for the kids,

martial arts classes for the kids,

convenient warranty support for our appliances,

close to atm's,

access to a decent hardware store,

a mall with decent places to park the kids while we shop,

an LBC/Western Union not too far away,

some decent paved road/sidewalk for walking/jogging/kids to ride a bike,

not too far from a beach resort or animal park,

outside of major hurricane paths,

high enough elevation to be above a typical tsunami,

nearby volcanoes are dormant or extinct,

house can withstand a mild earthquake and typhoon,

near a veterinarian ...

LOL ... having kids ups the requirements a bit.

You are describing Moalboal. Except for the hospital, but one is being built now, Dr Iris is a great pediatrician who has surgeries here and in the city.

If you keep promoting Moalboal, in 5 or 10 years neither of us will like what it  has become!

I'll have to turn my charisma down a notch, to stop the hoards flocking to where I am!

Im looking forward to a point in my life when i dont need wifi & other time consuming gadgetry!

Looking forward to sitting in a rocking chair on the front porch watching the world go by, are you? It kind of sounds like the way our grandparents spent their retirements. Nobody needs WIFI, but it is nice to have something that keeps you informed and keeps you sharp. Then again, we need the wisdom that should come with age to make sure that the Internet doesn't take over our lives. A balanced life with varied interests and activities makes retirement sweet.

Something like that!

I agree, we need that ballance. Even right now, i dont need to be on here or on my phone, i could be going for a walk, reading a book, learning a new skill or even taking my job more seriously instead of surfing the net all day, but i'm hooked!

Oops ... I forgot one other need ... to be on a different island from the relatives ... lol. Otherwise, it might just fit the bill.
