It's been 4 years and it looks like that's never going to happen, but I'm happy for how far I have recovered.

My hands are still about the same, but I've adapted so I can do things I couldn't do for some time.

I can even swim now, but running is out of the question because of the whole balance issues.

All I can say is that I am glad you made it back as far as you already have and hope that you will be 100% soon. Yup there is nothing like finding the right woman and you surely did, Bing is a great lady, and knowing you both has definitely been a big plus in our lives.

Salty, that's pretty intense, man. I'm glad you pointed me to this thread. I had not seen it before.

Total bill for hospital and doctors was about P1,400,000

Did you have PhilHealth?

Salty,

Great job hanging in there with what sounds like a very tough disease, and kudos also to your significant other and the healthcare system in Dumaguete, which was able to successfully diagnose this rare disease and treat it.

No I didn't.

My wife, then GF had it and she used it several times.

At that time, I didn't know I could get it.

The hospital was really pretty good about letting me run up a tab until my deposit dropped below 40% or there abouts. Even with that expensive drug.

Well the drug company would only accept cash and i didn't have access to P1,000,000 in cash. The hospital bought the drug and then jacked the price about 15% when selling it to me. I was able to pay all of my hospital bills with credit cards though.

Great stuff Salty, thanks. And you're blessed to have such a wonderful partner, they make all the difference don't they.

Makes you re-think things a bit though when you go through trauma like that.

Perhaps we should all stop and do a personal stock-take every now and then.

I have an ex work colleague that has just been through a similar experience with Guillain Barre Syndrome..

He is just 51 years and has just spent 9 months being treated in hospital in Brisbane.

Yesterday, I was able to watch him actually walk to the car.

He is fortunate that apart from being very weak and has very slow speech, he has

been told there is a great chance that he will make a full recovery.

I think the older you get it, the less chance you have of a full recovery. I guess being in the hospital for only a month was luckier than most. On the other hand, it's been nearly 5 years and I don't seem to have had much change in the past few years. I can only assume I've recovered as much as I ever will.

I am currently 63, will be 64 in December. I turned 59 in the hospital when this happened.
