Is there a better way than Xoom?

Bitcoin. Buy it anywhere for the prevailing rates (sometimes better than the prevailing rate depending on how you go about it). Send it to your coins.ph account and cash out. There are NO fees for cashing out. They make their money on people buying bitcoin and paying bills.

Beyond this -- The world bank publishes a list of fees for remittances using different services..

There was also a new service from richard brandson that utilizes bitcoin on the backend (though transparent to the users).

That's the best way, Andrew.  Just make sure you budget yourself correctly, and you'll be fine.   Have a CC as an emergency backup in case something crazy arises.   I would only use a remittance c
