Woolf 8,556
Flight data recorder has been retrieved latest rumor is that also the cockpit voice recorder has been retrieved http://newsinfo.inquirer.net/664000/divers-retrieve-airasia-flight-data-recorder Divers retrieve AirAsia flight data recorder PANGKALAN BUN, Indonesia — An official says divers have retrieved one of the black boxes from the AirAsia plane that crashed more than two weeks ago into the Java Sea, a major breakthrough in the slow-moving hunt. Henry Bambang Soelistyo, chief of Indonesia’s search and rescue agency, says the flight data recorder was brought to the surface by four divers early Monday morning. He says the search continues for the cockpit voice recorder. Divers began to zero in on the site a day earlier after picking up intense pings from its beacons, but they were unable to get a visual on it due to strong currents and poor visibility. The cockpit voice and flight data recorders are vital to understanding what brought Flight 8501 down on Dec. 28, killing all 162 people on board. Oz Jon 2,478
Divers retrieve AirAsia flight data recorder Well, I hope that the handling/opening/reading of the data recorder is done in a more professional way than the tailplane was recovered! Unbelievable! - dragging it up onto the ship's deck with a deck-level winch line!!!! Apparently they don't have access to any ships with suitable cranes or derricks? - or maybe, they are simply amateurs? - or were in a hurry to catch the TV evening news deadline? Disorganisation at it's best! Oz Jon
Oz Jon 2,478
Here is the tailplane recovery Hopefully they have mats on the stern so that they don't scratch the paint! - The mind boggles! Edited January 12, 2015 by Oz Jon
Lee 17,711
Divers retrieve cockpit voice recorder from AirAsia Flight 8501 wreckage Divers have retrieved the cockpit voice recorder from the wreckage of AirAsia Flight 8501, the second of two so-called "black boxes" that are likely to provide crucial evidence of why the Airbus A320 crashed in the Java Sea with 162 people on board. The recorder was freed early Tuesday from underneath the remains of one of the plane's wings at a depth of about 98 feet, a day after the aircraft's flight data recorder was recovered, said Tonny Budiono, sea navigation director at Indonesia's Transportation Ministry. "Thank God," he said. "This is good news for investigators to reveal the cause of the plane crash." READ MORE
