easy44 5,573
The Vice Mayor of Villaba Leyte was shot dead in his restaurant in Villaba today at around noon. A man walked in and shot him point blank, an estimated 15 times. Killer didn't attempt to hide his identity and calmly walked away. Obviously a professional hit. My gf is a Barangay Captain out of Villaba and learned by text soon after the event, and is now very nervous. This place is fecking crazy and life isn't worth a bucket of warm spit.
easy44 5,573
The Vice Mayor has been to our house with his wife and was a warm and very likable guy. One of the good guys, if any politicians can be so classified. My gf just was in a meeting with him on Friday and was joking and taking pictures with the other Bgy Capts. Bad enough when you read about something like this in the paper, but this is a lot more personal and shocking.
Woolf 8,556
Vice mayor of Leyte town shot dead TACLOBAN CITY, Philippines—The vice mayor of the town of Villaba in Leyte was shot and killed by two assailants Monday morning. Vice Mayor Claudio Martin Larrazabal was shot outside a restaurant and bar which he owned in Barangay (village) Del Norte around 11:45 a.m. by gunmen on a motorcycle, Villaba Mayor Jorge Veloso told the Philippine Daily Inquirer in a telephone interview. At least seven bullets were fired at the vice mayor, one hitting him in the heart, Veloso said. Veloso had no other details, however. “But I immediately instructed our police here to probe this killing and arrest the perpetrators,” Veloso said. Larrazabal was mayor of Villaba, 115 kilometers away from Tacloban, for nine years before running as vice mayor of Villaba during the 2013 elections. Mayor Veloso said that based on a sketchy report, the vice mayor was on his way to a restaurant-bar he owned when the two assailants, riding on a motorcycle, stopped near Larrazabal and shot him several times. The two men immediately fled towards the nearby town of Palompon. Mayor Veloso said that Larrazabal was first brought to a hospital in the town before he was brought to the Ormoc Sugarcane Planters Association-Farmers Medical Center, 40 kilometers away from Villaba town. At around 1 p.m., his attending physicians declared him dead on arrival. Mayor Veloso said that as of this posting, the police authorities were investigating the killing of Larrazabal, a cousin of former Commission on Elections commissioner Gregorio Larrazabal. A_Simple_Man 7,033
Interesting. It has been my observation that high ranking filipinos seldom go anywhere without security guards. I wonder where they were. My second thought is, why on earth bother to assassinate the deputy mayor? I have sympathy for the family and friends.
easy44 5,573
He usually has bodyguards but had invited a marriage party to his restaurant and apparently let the guards go. As to why? Who knows. He had several business ventures going as well as the political aspect, so could be any of those. I'm sure there will be much gossip flying in the next few days. easy44 5,573
Wow mayor for 9 years then one term as vice wonder if he was going to run again for vice or mayor next election Yes, that was the plan, to run again for mayor in2016. Current mayor is in his first term. Certainly could lead to some speculation about motives. Kalau (what they called the VM) was very popular and considered a shoe-in for mayor in 2016.
