I am in Bayawan, about 100 klms on south highway from Dumaguete in Negros Oriental. I am O negative. I had Dengue in late July, and had hepatitis B in 1981. No return of either disease. In the US they will not except my blood. I am disqualified forever because of the hepatitis B. Here I am not too sure. I became aware how rare O- blood is here while in Silliman Medical Center with Dengue.

        So can anyone answer this.

         (1) Can, or should I, give blood at all?

         (2) In this case can it be drawn here, and shipped to Cebu?

I too was exposed to Hep-B and as they found antibodoes in my blood. The same as you, the US Red Cross would not accept my blood. Canada Red Cross, however, loved it. They were always calling me to get my blood. They said they used it on premature babies. I guess the antibodies gave some sort of immunity to the babies.

So in your case, call the number, tel;l them the situation, and see if they will accept your blood and ask how to get it to them,

Got word from woman who sent original email to me - Patient is stable and does not need blood

However, if you can, why not contact one of the hospitals in town to see if they have a blood bank or something.  After years of blood giving, I have no veins left plus all the meds I am on prevents from giving as well

Thanks for all your good thoughts
