Good luck with clean and safe. I would stay in makati area. Only 20 mins to mnl at 3am.

I always stay at Mabuhay  manor. It's not terribly expensive, and 5 min from Mall of Asia and 10 -15 from the airport.  They have a shuttle service that I've used at various times of day.

I have stayed at Nichols, but last time was 1 1/2 year ago. Clean, mostly, safe, no problems. Cheap, no. I have given up on finding clean, safe cheap place in Manila!

I've stayed at Pinoy Pamilya. They have a shuttle to the airport. I usually use them coming in and going. For cheapest rates, book them online on their website. In person they are too expensive.

Marriott Hotel Manila – great room, good buffet, but way over-priced. Very safe. Would only return if my company was paying.

Copacabana Apartment Hotel – okay room with foam mattress, crap water pressure, safe enough, reasonable price, checkout process requires the patience of a monk, would not go there again

Heritage Hotel – good room, horrible buffet, a bit overpriced. Tendency to have cockroaches in the restrooms, safe, would not go there again

Mabuhay Manor Hotel – okay room with foam mattress, water pressure okay, safe enough inside the hotel, but neighborhood is rough, over-priced, would not go there again

Pinoy Pamilya Hotel – okay room with foam mattress, bad water pressure, rough neighborhood, price a bit high, would not go there again

Tune Hotel – tried to stay there last time, but ended up spending the night inside the airplane at Clark

With a flight that early you won't have trouble with traffic. You can stay just about anywhere you want. No need to limit yourself to being close to airport.

Might have a problem getting a taxi. Then might have a problem getting a taxi agreeing to use his meter.

I like City Gardens in Ermita mainly I guess because it was the first place I landed in PI. Been there several times and it's still my favorite but I'm sure there's better/cheaper. I think City Gardens is in the +2k range. About a 160p taxi ride.  Breakfast buffet seems to go downhill every time but if your flight leaves at 5am that's not a concern.

Personally with an ass crack of dawn flight like that I'd look into the rooms at T1 like another suggested.

If one is departing out of T2, T3 or T4, can you gain access to the rooms at T1?

I agree this is your best choice… around PHP2,000 to 3,000... in the same complex as Marriott and the Resort World… walking distance to Terminal 3, if you have to (about 5 minutes, be safe, due to construction)…

It's mainly the HOT/COLD/HOT/COLD/HOT/COLD water in the shower that keeps me away from Microtel, although I've stayed there several times due to it's convenient location to MoA. Now that I tried Tune Hotel near S&R for 1/2 the cost of Microtel, that will be my primary hotel (unless the Remington Hotel is actually decent). I'm hoping someone will post a complete report on the Remington Hotel with photos.

Yes and the room is big and clean. The location is perfect, very near the airport and lots of restaurants nearby. But i would not recommend staying in this hotel for a holiday. We have stayed in the hotel overnight while waiting for our next flight early in the morning. They offer free shuttle bus from the airport-hotel-airport.

At that hour if arriving at Terminal 3, hands down Makati is closer and a faster commute. Less headache and slightly less filth as well. The Tune in Makati can be had for about 1500 pesos I would guess. Not to be confused with the Tune Malate. Although the Tune Pasay is probably equidistant or maybe a tad closer when coming from T2 or T1. Be warned there isn't much within walking distance of the Tune Pasay, so don't expect to have something nearby to get a bite to eat at after that late arrival. But it is definately in the quietest area of all the Tunes. The best method for booking the Tune used to be on Agoda - in which case you get the 'full package' i.e. AC, internet towels etc. If you aren't familiar with the Tune's business model, they piece meal everything and just about everything in the room is an option (TV, AC internet). They allegedly buy the same matresses and shower heads as a major four star chain. Afterall, a  traveller wants a comfy bed and a good shower regardless. All the Tunes around metro manila are rather new so pretty clean and meets the needs of most budget minded travelers. The rooms are quite small, but if you are looking for a clean yet cheap place to sleep, it fits the bill.

Remington is another caliber hotel. This is 3000 plus once all said and done the last time I had someone staying there it was over 4k. Their rates of course fluctuate based on demand like most hotels. Since it is connected to the Resorts World casino, you'll be able to find something to eat and drink at any hour.
