Moalboal trap

Hi Guys,

I wanted to share our experience on our stay in Moalboal. My girlfriend and me wanted chill and explore the underwater life of that beautiful area. We rented one of these semi-automatic xrm honda to move around.

On Sunday, 7PM, we left the resort to have our dinner somewhere else. There's a few minutes dirt road from the resort to the main road, which certainly is really dark at night.

At some point of the ride I noticed a thin metal wire crossing the dirt road at the height of neck. I came to a short stop and thank god for few inches nothing happen to us. At that very moment another bike was coming the opposite way, we made him signals to stop. He was a local and could talk a bit with my girlfriend about the issue when suddenly somebody started to throw us stones from darkness, one did hit my front wheel. We bow our head, passed the wire and drove far from there, the other driver in the opposite direction. I was so nervious I could barely hold well the handlebar.

When we almost arrived the main road we stopped a bike driver with an older woman as customer and advised them of the situation. They kindly headed us to the barangay captain house.

We explained him the situation but he seemed sleepy and said it was his day off, so we should go and report to police station. He explained it was not the first time that happened and that there seems to be jealously issues between some of the resorts and the land ownership. His son drove a bike and show us the way to police station.

There my girl reported the issue and a police car escorted us back to the resort. At the point where the issue happened there was around 15 locals and the other bike driver who was also attacked, he was very thankful we did stop him. He did show the wire to police.

Later at the resort, the owner personified and explained us it did happen before in other resort road but not in theirs, she seemed really pissed off and said they will caught who did it and put in jail...

I'm not going to name resorts here but I would recommend you guys to be careful if you plan to drive in those dark areas. I arrived Philippines on November 2012 and didn't had any issues so far until now. We are affected, specially my girl who couldn't sleep for two nights.

that Quo Vadis resort has got in the habit of making up a road block that can catch drivers unawares at night, apparently they do not want their customers disturbed by the noise of engines. However they think they have the power to just block off a public highway just like that whenever they feel like it though, I am not aware.

this is a bit of an issue if you are staying at one of the resorts close by like Love's, because it means you have to take the much worse road where it is a lot likelier to have an accident, especially at night.

Don't you think you should mention them so others know? I think putting people at personal risk to their safety is a very serious concern.

I never did. I just moved the bamboo out of the way, enough so I could continue down the road to Love's.

If this is not the resort in question, then stay on topic.

Paul, I just don't know well this forum policy and perhaps that could have violated the rules at some point. I also think it should be fair to mention. It was Turtle Bay Dive Resort, but that road is the same for Magic Island.

Cheers.

Ahhh yes. I know it well. Never happened to me, though fortunately. Traveling at night while staying down in Moalboal is some thing I have rarely done.

Not to mention how dangerous - life threatening of a move it was.

If they want to play games, if that were indeed the case, they need to find other games to play that only involve themselves and their competing businesses.

Wow, I lived there for almost 3 years and never heard of such a serious affair.  One night some drunk kids set up a bamboo pole across the main road into town from P beach and when you slowed down to get around the pole they would jump out and punch you.  I punched back and so did the guy behind me and I think they lost interest after that.  I doubt the PNP would do anything about it unless someone was killed.  The Captains response is typical.  Sad that.

I agree. People have a right to know, and you have a right to speak the truth as you see it. Even in the Philippines. Why would you not name any resorts? Are you on the side of the people who threatened your life? Do you beleive in covering up truth to protect criminals?   Sorry for the provactive questions... just my thoughts.

Believe me, I'm more than happy to be able to share resort names. As I already explained Paul, I was not sure of this forum policy when it comes to libel a business. I know of other forums (not about Cebu) which would probably have removed this thread quickly.

I <3 Cebu

This is very sad to read, i thought the area was pretty accepting to foreigners/tourists. Really hope they get caught before someone is killed or seriously injured

glad to see that the basic principle of basic free speech is allowed on the forum. I wish I could say it was the same way in the Phliippines, in general.

however I have observed, that the Philippines has been trying recently.

This is one of the most disturbing things i have ever read here. Seriously. If you rode by at 60 mph you would be decapitated instantly.

What kind of a sick animal does that? Times like this I'm so glad I left that fecking place.

It's ok the road in question is not very good and one would be hard pressed to go 30kph on it.....still....it could ruin your day at any speed!
