DOH: 384 HIV cases recorded in November

 

Aside from fireworks-related and stray bullet injuries, the Department of Health (DOH) is also warning the public against human immunodeficiency virus (HIV).
 
DOH Spokesman Eric Tayag said, 384 new HIV cases were reported in Novemer alone, bringing the total number of cases this year to 4,456. Last year, 3,338 Filipinos were diagnosed with HIV.

The Philippines has been listed by the United Nations as one of only nine countries in the world with continued increase of HIV cases. HIV causes the deadly disease, acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS), and weakens a person's ability to fight off infections. It is transmitted through unprotected sex or needle sharing.
