Denis 362
Adelaide man tries to pay City Council parking fine with 5c pieces DANIEL PIOTROWSKI news.com.au September 16, 2013 11:00AM inShare1 Increase Text Size Decrease Text Size Print Email Video Image Man tries to shortchange council An Adelaide man films himself attempting to pay a $60 fine in 5c coins. Courtesy Liveleak Autoplay On Off The fine remains outstanding ... A still from the video of the incident. Picture: LiveLeak Start of sidebar. Skip to end of sidebar. End of sidebar. Return to start of sidebar. NICE try, anonymous Adelaide man. A cranky recipient of a $60 parking fine nearly got his revenge on his local council last Friday when he attempted to pay his outstanding fee with 1200 five cent coins. "Can I have a receipt, please?" the belligerent gentleman asked, pouring the contents of his sizeable coin sack over the receptionist's counter at an Adelaide City Council office. But the council's receptionist got her revenge, insisting she could not process the petty currency. That's because, according to Australian law, payments made with five cent coins can legally be refused for transactions greater than $5. Probably to stop shenanigans just like this one. "You're part of a corporation I don't want to deal with," the man said as he left the building. He even pushed the coins over the counter at her. "I paid. I'm out. Bye. I gave you the money." A council spokesman confirmed to news.com.au the incident occurred at their customer service centre last Friday. And the man, who posted a video of his failed stunt, still has a bill to pay. "We will be sending the customer a letter to communicate the fine remains outstanding and his money is being held in the safe," the spokesman added.

udonthani 2,027
Adelaide man tries to pay City Council parking fine with 5c pieces don't know about Australia but in the UK has specific tendering laws, with notes/bills of 5 pounds and up you can pay any amount and ditto with the larger 5 pound, 2 pound and 1 pound coins. but lower than that and there are limits. vendors can refuse to take coins when they are over 50p - 10 pounds 20p - 10 pounds 10p - 5 pounds 5p - 5 pounds 2p - 20p 1p - 20p the 20p figure when vendors can refuse service to somebody who wants to pay in copper coins has not changed for many years.
