what about malls? when are them closing?

malls close?  heck, a typhoon is as good a reason as any to get started on some christmas shopping.  strong structure, restaurants, generators for power outages, movie theaters, what more do you need to ride out a storm?

I would take this storm seriously folks if in Cebu area . This is classified as a type 4 Hurricane in a country with not a lot of building code and even poorer drainage . Even if it does swing north or south of Cebu you are looking at 4 - 8 inches of rainfall according to source sited .  Be Safe.

Yes I can't understand the over-reaction by schools regarding another day off school. The storm/typhoon isn't predicted to hit here until Thursday night.

There has already been 3 weeks of no school and kids are bored out of their minds.  Kids need structure and cancelling school again today doesn't make much sense when you look outside and see a perfect day.

What's the bet there will be no school for the rest of the week? Ridiculous decision!

then all the boat trip from TUBIGON was canceled ??? then the next day 4 hrs queue to get a ticket then that was yesterday after 4 hrs queue you get at last to the window to pay oh sorry mum no more seat go back tomorrow you wont believed FAST craft have only one girl to

dispatch the ticket even the queue his to long the other girl to busy texting ahahaha what a big joke welcome to the PHILIPPINES

I confused as there is another one 'Wilma' also on Typhone2000.ph

I think this is the one that everyone in Cebu is experiencing right now, that Sha-Sha is telling me about today:-http://www.typhoon2000.ph/advisorytrax/2013/wilma03.gif

wilma03.gif

This is Haiyan (Yolanda) that seems to be following up behind it, expected to be over Cebu on Friday:-

yolanda02.gif

Yeah wilma passed Monday night...we are talking about that experience and the impending new one coming, Haiyan.

Wilma spun up twisters when she passed

the typhoon will turn much north until it reaches vietnam

I think, at least here in Cebu city, we better wait two more days before making anything radical about this weather system.

wait and its too late...if it misses I will still be able to use this extra food, water. Big bag of charcoal...way cheaper to buy bulk and I will be good for barbi for a long time lol.

Going to pack up important documents and electronics, put them in garbage can and tape it up. What else have I got to do...an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

Not doing much prep on the house, there are widows I should board up...but probably won't. Wife says the old timers would rope down the roofs and stake them to the ground...well that's not going to happen on my two story house lol.

We are very exposed where we live...no trees or houses to help disperse the wind.

If the roof blows off so be it....but I wonder how the walls will hold up in a direct hit. In a typhoon, windows open or closed?

Still deciding on a safe place to be in case of direct hit.

And why do these bastards always have to come at night!

The best sites for tracking this are:

http://www.tropicaltidbits.com/analysis/models/gfs/

click on western pacific, choose 10m wind speed and then 'loop'

http://www.storm2k.org/phpbb2/viewforum.php?f=76

10 pages already on this storm.  Forum used by a lot of meteorologists - the general consensus on there re: tracks is usually more accurate than the actual models

http://www.typhoon2000.ph/

everyone knows this

http://www.wunderground.com/wundermap/

same as first link, except you can also get the Euro model (different agency's models differ from each other).  Click on model data, then settings.  You can choose from about 4 different models.  Choose wind speed then play and let it load.

One of the MANYMANY things that continue to baffle me about this country is like of warnings to general public about storms. I'm from Florida and weather services there begin tracking a storm as soon as it comes off the coast of Africa.

Why do these crazy people wait until it is in "the Philippine area of responsibility"? That is ABSOLUTELY nuts!!!!

It is then TOO late for people.

This storm is the real deal, and models are now forecasting a Cat 5 when it makes landfall over either Samar or Leyte.  I would take the family and head south if I didn't think the locals would "borrow" everything left in my house once we were gone, so we will just bunker down and ride it out.  Stocking up on necessities, building a safe area in the house, putting some extra screws and sealant on the roof, cutting boards for the windows and briefing the wife on all possible scenarios.  As unfortunate and potentially dangerous as this situation might be, it's actually a very good chance to show our wives and partners how (most of) the first-world properly prepares for this sort of event.  Stay safe, everyone.

Kennedy Space Centre.   Cape Canaveral Air Force Station.   Port Canaveral.

Maybe these 3 have something to do with that.

Last hurricane I rode out was Hurricane Ike. I've been through MANY hurricanes before but that one got my attention.

If this one doesn't take a northerly turn, looks like we'll be riding out another soon.

Went into town yesterday got batteries, some extra food items, and extra cash out of the machine. Just loaded up on water, so that's taken care of. Gassed up the car.

One thing that I've been trying to get out to the neighbors is to put smaller/lighter items from the outside "inside" their houses. Sure would cut down on things flying around and breaking windows and such. But.... I know, like farting in the wind.

Stay safe.
