Half Baked 1,876
I was playing an online trivia type game that was obviously a few, to say the least, years old. One of the questions was about "scientists have crossed fireflies with tobacco plants" of course I thought it was BS, but checked it out after the game. This is what I found, after a quick short search... I'm sure there are other sites.... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Glowing_tobacco_plant.jpg My questions are 1) why the heck would ANYONE would consider doing this? and 2) why the USDA funded the research??!! Dragonladies.org 1,628
I didn't see any indication of what year this research was funded, but I wonder if it is somehow connected to trying to find another use for the tobacco plant, with the decline of smoking? Does anyone remember how many tobacco farms there were in the SE US in the 60's and 70's? It was a major industry.
