Balakbayan Stamp Time again

Recommended Posts

I'm at that point where I need to take the wife outside the country and get the balakbayan stamp on return.  Last time, we did an overnight trip to Hong Kong.  Departed Cebu City on one day, then departed Hong Kong the next day.

I'm trying to set up some other plans.  I can leave Cebu and fly to Hong Kong, depart Hong Kong on the same date but land in Manila just after midnight the following day.  Will I then get my BB stamp even though I wasn't in HK past midnight?

If the answer to that question is yes, that's great.  If not, I'll have to plan on time in HK.  Does anybody have advice as to what is worth sticking around HK to see?  I've been to the Peak and don't have much desire to see Disney World.

Seems like a wasted trip to Hong Kong to just turn around and leave.Check out the Chinese herb shoppes and maybe get some acupuncture while there.

I'm pretty sure you can just go through HK immigration, get stamped, then come right back. I *think* I did that on my first trip.

As for things to do in HK...

We enjoyed Ocean Park. An amusement park with some decent rides. I'm used to some of the worlds best rides at Cedar Point amusement park so these rides were small...but on the positive side the lines were very short....or none at all.  Some neat aquariums there too. Easy to get to from the airport via bus.

They also have some nice parks there.  Nan Lian Gardens with the adjacent Chi Lin Nunnery are very nice (good photo ops....free entry) but can be confusing to find. If you get lost ask a bus driver.... I'd skip Kowloon Walled City park myself...we didn't think it was worth the trip. Honk Kong Park (right on the way to Ocean Park) is nice to stroll through..and free.

We also checked out the art museum which wasn't bad if you like Chinese pottery and calligraphy. The best part for me was the very nice view of the bay from the sculpture garden(if facing the entrance go right on the balcony). There are also some other sites within an easy walk...the Space museum, the history museum is near, a cultural center, Star Avenue, etc.

Things we haven't done but want to are the scenic bus tour (like $50hk for half a day if I recall), and the botanical&zoological gardens...which is in the HK Park area.

We also did the peak and while the view was very nice at night...it was our least favorite spot to visit thus far.

Taking the peak railway at night to see the views and eat up there is nice. There was a Madam Tusuads up there too. Had fun posing with the models.

Macau is were we went last time and we loved the trip. We stayed 3 days and wished we had stayed a few days more. Hotel around $70 for a nice room in a small casino and great food places and shops within walking distance. With around 20 casinos there were great floor shows and entertainment.
