Sampaguita Suites

Recommended Posts

Paul

Greetings:

There is a place in Cebu City that I recently booked a reservation in, at the request of a friend. I was a bit apprehensive at first, but finally decided to give it a try. My "normal" hotel was fully booked for that evening, so that was extra incentive for me to give this place a try. Anyway, here goes:

Hotel Name: Sampaguita Suites

Website: http://www.sampaguitasuites.com

Address: 2nd Floor, JRG Building (formerly the Belvic Theatre)

General Maxillom Avenue (Mango Avenue), Cebu City

Telephone: (032) 253-3672, (032) 253-5964

Geographic: The building is located on Mango Avenue. This is just past, and across the street from the intersection of Mango and F. Ramos Street, at Robinson's Mall located at Fuente Osme

Hey Pointman, Like you say great value for the money in a safe area, with a good central location. The price is up a bit to 798php per night. Friendly staff, with the only take back being the rooms are very small by Western standards. The CR (restroom) has the shower and toilet side by side, in a room 2m x 1.5m.

One of the best values for those of us who squeeze every penny. I think if I find the right filipina she and I may invent copper wire if we to drop a 25 centavos piece...

;)

It's near a mall (robinsons) and pharmacy (mercury).

Transportation-wise it is very accessible. It is easy to get taxi or jeepney in that area.

For food, its near decent food establishments in the fuente area.

For gamblers, its near a slot machine facility.

Haven't tried the place yet, but I may soon since Sampaguita Suites looks like an inexpensive alternative. Normally I've been staying at Eddies since the Cadillac Cafe closed down. I like the area and taxi rides are much less expensive to SM Mall or Ayala Mall compared to starting from Mactan. Eddies Hotel has a nice little restaurant not too far away. Mango Ave has some interesting looking places to eat. And some other, not so interesting restaurants in the area as well. Mercury Drug across from Robinsons Mall. Bikini bars a pretty short trip down the road for those that indulge in that sort of socializing and/or eye candy. I didn't try the Slot Machine Casino, but headed down to the one on the waterfront. The waterfront casino had all the games, including craps, blackjack and roulette. It is the nicest casino I've been in (for the Philippines), better than the Hyatt Hotel in Manila, which is pretty upscale. If I was out to enjoy a night of gaming, food and celebration, I'd save my pesos up for a trip to the one on the waterfront in Cebu.

AC works ( ie. you can shiver and need blankets if you want) and the water is hot.

Sorry, Rusty. I just noticed your reply, as I was getting information on Sampaguita for someone.

My normal hotel, in Cebu anyway, runs about Php 2,700 - Php 3,500 per night.

It's a top secret hotel, so if I told anyone, I would have to kill 'em. :thats-funny::any-help:

Had a reservation at Sampaguita back in April, two weeks ahead of time... when I showed up they had written down another day and were booked completely.

I think since they were full they just gave my reservation to whomever came knocking. A bit annoying when you've just gotten off a 26 hour flight.

Hey,

Mike ... yes, they did.

Sork, I scolded them a while back, as I was coming in to Cebu for a day or two, but wouldn't be in until fairly late that evening. In fact, I was on the way when a buddy called for me. They told him they would only hold the room until 10pm. Needless to say, I had a lengthy talk with the manager, the following day.

Since I just updated this thread, I will also update a bit other information. I stayed in room 204, the last time I visited the hotel. The air-con in the room barely keeps the room comfortable. Well, that would be foreigner comfortable anyway.

They also bumped the rates 100 php per room, and now require a 500 php security deposit. They have a Receipt and paper trail that is onerous even by phil standards...Still nice and central and liveable. They also have a couple new staff who are aggressive, I think they have had some serious problems with some guests of late.

Hi everyone,

I just called Sampaguita Suites up last week. I wanted to book for Jan. 8-17. sinulog is on the 18th. they said they are bumping up their rates 50% for Ja. 12-14 and 100% for Jan. 15-18. I calculated that at these rates, I might as well stay at a hotel. At least they do not bump it up 50-100% for the sinulog

That is dirty business. They are simply trying to make money to pay for their expansions. (They are adding more rooms.) I am not nearly as impressed with Zampaguita now, as I was when I first went there.

Thanks for the update, and welcome to the forums.
