cheaper resorts on the north end of cebu - know anything about these?

No resort here and this might be too late to help you, but Bogo City has the place listed below and has air, hot water, TV, food , locked area for your bike ...About 1100P per night ... Large rooms and safe and has about everything you need in its area .. Bogo is back east from San Remigio along the national Hiway ..

Northomes Pensione

Pelaez St., Bogo City, Cebu, 6010, Philippines

[email protected]

(63 32) 434-7688

(63 32) 251-3277

you say 'about' 1100 a night, but if it actually IS 1100 a night then that is not good value, at all, for a pension house room in a provincial city of Bogo's size. That would be a bit on the expensive side, even for Cebu city really. The Diplomat is not far off that, but then the Diplomat is not a pension. It is a proper hotel. For 1100, you should be getting more facilities than those in Bogo, for sure. You don't even get breakfast.

for example, Toledo is really a very similar city to Bogo. It is about the same size. It is, like Bogo, a port. But where I stay in Toledo the price for a very large room with all those facilities is only 750 (though I actually pay less than that as they like me there and I've been staying there for years). Also in Toledo is Shem hotel where you can get small rooms with all those facilities for 750 or big ones for 950. But get this. Shem hotel has a SWIMMING POOL.

for 1100, that's the kind of thing you should be getting in a place like Bogo. Not just 'air, hot water, TV, locked area for your bike'. You should be getting more than that for 1100 in Bogo. Like at least breakfast. And maybe even a swimming pool too.

If in Bogo, you could try the Bogo Pension House.  It's been about two years since I was there but the rooms went for 700 pesos for air con and they had a decent pool.

whippy is perfectly capable of doing that in real life.

'you want to charge me 1100 for this room? Where the feck is your swimming pool?'

Skip could just point outside to the sea. In Bogo, you can't.

heaps off stuff up the north end.

Depends on what you want.  Both malipascua and baantyan island have heaps of resorts. Bogo is great there are a few off a bit from there.

On the way up there is also huna huna.   I liked huna huna as it had a mediteranean theme to it but it is one of those cebu beaches.

U know all rocks no sand.

Koto beach resort on baantyan is great and is owned by a filipino guy called ray.

The resort next to his has a floating bar a few months of the year that is good too if you are a drinker.

Yep, Cebu is lacking a bit on cool, sandy beaches as compared to some of the other islands ..

I was over on Bantyan island once with a friend and it was a little surprising to see it so layed back ... Plus the commercialism always talked about on that island was there but actually was small time and still fit into a native look and the prices were OK for me ...

Here's a look at the attitude of one of the small bars there ...

As I was trying to say above on the commercialism always talked about on this island, as soon as you get away from the small area that is built-up some, the island turns back into a small, sandy, native looking island .. Nice for slow bike rides around the place for enjoying the scenery but no real dirt bike riding over there.

Thats my 08 TXC250 Husqvarna parked at one of the mangrove areas during low tide... Really cool looking out there in the grove...

no but it is a great place to chill.   Up the north end away from the touristy part there is an old spanish fort which is worth a good look at if you like history and the ld chruch in baantyan town is also worth having a gander at.

baantyan island is and always will be my favorite island on the philippines, if it was easy to live there ( I do not want to go into the political situation of island and it is against the rules here but lets just say hmmmmm.)

but if anyone here is looking for a get away  then this is it.    beautiful white sand beaches, torquise water, and a laid back population( if visiting off season you can get some great deals to.)

Just don't go there around culling time as the flies will piss you off to no end

Bantayan has no 'mountain'. It is just pretty featureless compared to the other Visayan islands. It is just short, on anything dramatic. No volcano. The beach is not anything special and to be frank I am amazed that somebody from Australia thinks there is anything especially commendable about it. Bantayan has its plus points but it is boring, frankly. Which might be why the kano drunks on there seem to start earlier in the day than they usually do on the other islands.

Living here at the momment and yes I have been spoiled as I lived off the coast of the great barrier reef for most of my life.

It's up to you personal preference I guess.

Bantyaan has been one of the only places I have been where I have had almost an entire white sand beach to myself.

And I only got there for 2 to 3 days for a holiday not to live. I imagine if I lived there I would go bat shit crazy within a week.

if the gadzillions of places in Oz that you can say that about are not enough for you you can try Transkei or Mozambique. One of the features of the Philippines, is that it is so crowded that even in the remote province there will always be somebody close by. I guess it is all relative and it just feels like you have some space for once if you are away from the packed-up-like-sardines Filipine city.

I second the motion.  Stayed there with the family for several days before jumping over to Malapascua.  loved the huge sandbar at low tide.     Good price and good food.   Also Belle  allowed us to  use a rice cooker and   bbq  grill our fish outside.. even provided the wood :)  .  Great place and very economical.

yeah I am not talking about the rest of the world    I thought it was about resorts and beaches on the north end of cebu.

Once again best place I have seen here.

sometimes you go into bits of the Philippines, that are almost world class. Little bits, and pieces.

but hardly any of them go all the way there to true world class. Filipine tourist attractions are not that good. Almost nobody, outside the Philippines, has heard of even one. You just have to accept that the only reason why any foreigner of whatever hue, bothers to turn up there, is because of the girls. And everyone knows this - especially including, the girls.

Again, you have to remember this is a 3rd world country and not the colorful magazine articles pointed at some tourist to come and stay a few days... I'm here for the 3rd world way of life...Its perfect for me.  Looking for the 1st world here?  Sorry, bad choice on your part and please keeping looking else where and you are gonna be disgruntled at the best living here.  Absolutely nothing wrong with the girls and people overall for sure but without the daily way of life of life that the people live here daily, I would not be here living  ...

I've said this before here ...I live in a different Philippines than most here .. This place offers the greatest amount of personal freedom I've ever had and the costs and standard of living are OK with me also ... I'm here for the 3rd world way of life...Its perfect for me.

--

These islands have the terrain first off, next the freedoms, next riders support such as food and gas and flat fixers in the outer provinces, next and most importantly, the people here enjoy seeing it here and allow it to happen, politicians pay for it and its called  Dirt Bike Riding!!

It's a dirt bike riding mecca here ... A person can ride as much as they desire here hassle free in the provinces, starting from their front door step to any part of this island with smiling faces from the the people just about the entire day...

--

The girls the only reason to come here?  Maybe as a starter but if you can't see what else this place offers after you arrive that is a personal issue you should come to grips with...Some of you guys should consider a change in your life that actually will fit in here and use the resources before you croak ...

--

Someone else on this thread said the north tip of Cebu is the best for him and I can agree with that .. But out in the provinces between Carmen and Catmon, is not too shabby also ..

I'm not talking about the economy. Or the cities. But the natural features. The beaches, the mountains and the scenery in the Philippines generally. Some if it is quite good, but a lot of it is really rather ordinary. Thailand and also Malaysia are quite like that too. It's OK and in some places, it is better than OK. But it is really very rare, that you see something genuinely breathtaking.
