they wont do anything and say its the law of our host .... there is very little justice for anyone even the locals and that is why they dont get mad they get even

Has anyone actually discussed this with the embassy? It is of course the law of the host country which applies, but an embassy would be entitled to request that that law be actually applied.  I would think that an official or unofficial request from the embassy would carry some weight.

Sorry for your loss

But did James let onto you at anytime that his marriage was in shatters or he felt his life was in danger?

My life is threatened because I later found myself being as a primary witness. As to my marriage, my wife has stood by my side and remained strong through the ordeal here, just as she has for the last 27 years. It will take more than what has been thrown at us so far to cause any harm to our relationship,

When one of us is murdered an article is posted in a thread where a few positive and negative postings occur before the threads simply get forgotten and lost to the achieves. The case is progressing and Harry's family and friends are doing what they can to pressure their own government to be more proactive in the case. This possibly would not have been the case without the thread informing those interested parties, Will his starting and maintaining a thread help? Maybe or maybe not, but I am pretty sure that simply doing nothing will most likely accomplish little.

This is the guy that had sold his electric wheelchair and had the cash in the house while his wife and her family went on vacation and left him home alone---isn't it ???

CAMP VICENTE LIM, Philippines—An ailing American was murdered when robbers broke into his home in Tagaytay City, Cavite, hours before Christmas Eve, police on Sunday said.

James Thomas Kakara, 61, was found dead around 9:40 a.m. on Saturday or about a couple of hours after he was killed inside his home in Barangay Kaybagal South, according to Senior Supt. John Bulalacao, Cavite police director.

Police believed a piece of metal, recovered from the victim’s swimming pool, was used to kill the American, who died of head injury.

Bulalacao said Kakara, a retired consultant for an American security agency, had lived in the Philippines with his Filipino wife Norlita Ilejay-Kakara, 37, for over four years. The couple also lived with Nola, a minor, and Norlita’s daughter with a Filipino man, whom James Thomas had legally adopted.

On Friday evening, Norlita, Nola, and house helpers Mary Jane Montero, 19, and Rebylyn Iso (age unknown), spent the night at a resort in Nasugbu, Batangas, while James Thomas was left alone in the house.

When the family got back Saturday morning, Norlita noticed that the back door of the house was left open.

Montero, who was interviewed by the police, said Norlita immediately sought help from the neighbors after finding her husband dead on his bed.

Robbery

Bulalacao said a black shoulder bag that contained $3,000 and P15,000 was missing. The bag also contained P61,000 that the couple was supposed to use to buy a new wheelchair for James Thomas, who lost a leg to diabetes.

Also missing were the victim’s cellular phone and a computer laptop.

Norlita had requested that her husband’s remains be cremated Saturday afternoon after the police conducted an autopsy, said Bulalacao.

Police initially said robbery was the motive although Bulalacao said they would be conducting a deeper investigation after they found no signs of forced entry into the house. They also found out that the couple had not been sleeping together anymore.

According to investigators, Norlita, who remained in shock, has yet to give full her statement to police.

TAGAYTAY CITY, The Philippines –  A retired U.S. Marine was found beaten to death at his home in The Philippines on Christmas Day, GMA News reported.

The victim was identified as James Thomas Kakara, 61, a U.S. war veteran whose left leg was amputated. He was attacked at his home near Tagaytay City in the northern Cavite province, police said Sunday.

Kakara's body was found in his swimming pool, and police said he was beaten with a lead pipe in the Christmas Eve attack.

"He was alone at home at that time because his [Filipina] wife and the rest of the members of the family were out ... for an overnight party and the following day, the American national was found dead," Cavite police director John Bulalacao was quoted as saying.

Kakara was described as a long-term resident of Tagaytay City. Police did not know how many suspects were involved in the death, and no witnesses had yet come forward.

Police said about 206,000 pesos ($4,700) in cash, his cell phone and a laptop computer were taken.

Christmas Eve turned bloody for a retired United States Marine soldier after he was attacked and killed inside his home in Tagaytay City in Cavite province, a police official said Sunday.

James Thomas Kakara, 61, a war veteran whose left leg had been amputated, was alone in his house in Kaybagal South village when attacked, said Cavite police director Senior Superintendent John Bulalacao.

Kakara’s body was found around 9:30 a.m. Sunday with injuries apparently caused by a lead pipe that the suspects or suspect used, said Bulalacao, quoting initial investigation conducted by the police Scene of the Crime Operatives.

“He was alone at home at that time because his (Filipina) wife and the rest of the members of the family were out in Nasugbu (in Batangas) for an overnight party and the following day, the American national was found dead,” said Bulalacao.

“According to the SOCO, he was hit by lead pipe that was found on the swimming pool,” he added.

Bulacacao could not say how many suspects were involved, adding that no witness has come out yet.

“It’s currently being investigated by the chief of police of Tagaytay and there are no witnesses coming out,” the police official said. “Right now, as of this date, as of this time, our investigators are having difficulty in coming up with definitive angle or modus operandi.”

The suspect or suspects carted away a black shoulder bag containing at least P206,000, a cellular phone and a laptop computer.

Bulalacao said the victim has been residing in Tagaytay City “for a long time already.” — KBK, GMA News

The reports and Police made the murder out to be a simple robbery, For the cash and the laptops and whatever else could be removed in a hurry,  But really it was an even more about Primal instinct,  The wife who had already aborted 1 baby from a fling with the house boy,  Had another BF, and was Pregnant at the time with the second Baby decided she and the BF would keep the second baby.  So the best way to have it all was to Kill Jim. There was a P3.5M house in Aklan, A P16M house in Tagaytay, His full Disability of over P60,000 per month. Of which the adopted Daughter received a portion.  Jim adopted his daughter, and she is an American Citizen.  Jim's wife was not an American Citizen, Isn't 1 of the jobs of American Embassy to protect American Citizens?  I have been informed that the daughter knows her mother and BF killed Jim,  But is in fear for her life, and has changed her story so many times that no one knows what to believe.

Foreigner Murdered Christmas Eve Updated: 12/25/2011

US man slain in Philippine robbery: police

A retired American Marine living in the Philippines was killed during a home invasion on Christmas Eve, police said Sunday.

James Thomas Kakara, 61, was bludgeoned to death Saturday while he was alone at his home in Tagaytay, an upscale community near Manila, said provincial police chief Senior Superintendent John Bulalacao.

"The victim is an amputee who is a retired US Marine. He was apparently hit on the head and a piece of pipe that was presumably used in the attack was found at the bottom of his swimming pool," Bulalacao told reporters.

His wife and other members of the household had been away at the time, the officer added.

Police said the thieves took about 206,000 pesos ($4,700) in cash, as well as the victim's mobile phone and laptop computer.

Kakara, who was from California, moved to the Philippines after marrying a Filipina, Tagaytay police officer Leonard Carandang told AFP.

There have been numerous cases of elderly foreigners living in the Philippines who have been attacked and robbed in their homes, with some victims dying of their injuries.
The above post is not Scare Tactics..It is a fact of life here for a Porienger....Do-not underestimate it..

Right now I am in Zamboanga City sitting back in the Hotel pool bar having a 35 peso San. Mig. light..

Xmas eve I visited the asawa home with Xmas gifts to give to around 30 people..I had a great night and left there around 1.00am..

This was the first time the family had organised armed escorts to take us back to the Hotel. It tells you how things have deteriorated here in Zambo..

Tomorrow morning I will take a 4.00am bus to Ipil and then to Dipolog and stay for 2 days at a beach resort. A little daunting as Ipil is where the Australian was kidnapped 5 weeks ago...

But did James let onto you at anytime that his marriage was in shatters or he felt his life was in danger?

He did say to me before I left the Philippines, and in a few e-mails that if anything happened to him.  Look closely at his wife.  At the time I just thought it was typical Husband, Wife fighting.  I had been married many more years than him.

Has charges been filed on the wife and Bf, or are they merely considered suspects at this point?

A very clear demonstration that paradise has a very thin veneer of civilisation.  Fact is though, this could have happened in any Country.  The guy is dead, nothing will change that.  The justice system is well known to people who live here, and the lack of natural justice shown towards foreigners, is common knowledge for the whole region (except Singapore probably).

I would be surprised if the Ambassador is unable to look into this case, but then nothing much surprises me after living in the region for  more than 10 years.

It's a sad case, but it certainly will happen again (and again).

James Kakara was killed by his wife and her BF, and pleaded guilty in court.

Just so I understand what you are saying -  you say that you know that his wife and her bf killed him because they were arrested, tried, and pleaded guilty in court ??

oh my god what a country ?????

After living in the Philippines for over 30 years and finally giving up trying to live with what it takes to live there.  I'm not sure I would call it a country,

More like a bunch of tribes living near each other on the same piece of real estate.  The Philippines as been given every advantage in the world to become the Pearl of the Orient, instead they prefer to do things their way and remain a 3rd world country. And the Trash Can of South East Asia.

Yes I have seen 2 or 3 of these hit myself.  But this murder was done in the house while the poor guy was in bed, and his fake leg more than 20 feet away from him.   Even a young healthy  US Marine would have a hard time again those oods. He was beaten in the head with a pipe.

Does it not seem a bit strange that a guy who weighed 350 lbs and had only one leg would take off his fake leg, leave it somewhere and then supposedly crawl 20 feet to his bed ?  I have known people with prosthetic legs and they always sat on the bed and then left their leg on the floor/table right beside them for when they woke up .

They went in front of a judge and pleaded Guilty.  And most of us were waiting for the sentencing of Life in Prison for all involved.  But got word that another Lawyer filed a motion that her plea be withdrawn.  I can't figure out for the life of me where she is getting her money now,  Lawyers are the same all over world, they don't do anything without money or the promise of money.
