No I gave up on thinking anything here happens for a reason. It is all just Gods will and if it is suppose to happen it will. That is why it never happens but lets pray about it hope it gets better. God willing it will.

The main difference is that this one was announced by the BI themselves and the 30 day one was announced by DOT. I believe this one will actually go into effect and while it may cost a little extra than renewing every two months, the fewer trips to the BI offices should save long time tourists on transportation and time. The main thing is that it is a step in the right direction for those of you who stay on tourist visas.

I'm confused, because I generally get a one year visa now and it is a large sticker that pretty much fills the page.  It's been that way for over a year now.  Anything they can do to eliminate that 59 day run is a blessing in my view.  I was planning on applying for a new 1 year next week, maybe I'll wait another week to see if anything surfaces about this new program.

i also got that 1 year visa, and found out it is not needed it just takes up a whole lot of space. u just extend the 21 days free u have at bi. i have been here 16 months almost now on my 1 year visa and my passport that was new is now ½ filled. and that visa did cost a fortune compared to just extending. i cant see any reason to have it. but maybe if u travel alot but staying here there is no need

Well, with the 1yr visa being multi-entry it could potentially save you a lot of page space.

But the article doesn't give details (as usual) on how this will be implemented.  Is it something that can or needs to be applied for from the embassy before arrival or can it only be obtained from the BoI at a normal extension time.

As for cost savings, at least you'll only have 1 express lane fee instead of 3.

I notice a couple posts saying you can only extend to 16 months but I think you can extend up to 2 years now.

from what i here u can extend up to 16 month on local office. from 16 to 24 is only in manila u have to go there every 59 days to get dispensation for staying. 1 guy here in ormoc last i renewed had been to manila and thought that would last him the rest of the time. so he showed up at the local office and found out he had to be in manila or leave the country within 2 days, since local offices cant grant any extension above the 16th month. so the 24 month really only apply for those living in or around manila, its to expensive to travel there every 2 month for the rest it will be cheaper just to leave after the 16th month

when i was here 14 months they told me i need to send some papers to manila for approval

i used lbc and 2 weeks later i got back to bi and got my stamp

oh ye i also had to get some paper notarized for it as well

see post #26, basically 6 months worth of extension fees plus 100 pesos for the cost of the sticker but it's only going to be available in Manila initially. We shall see if it becomes a reality soon enough I guess

Well, given the 2 week turnaround for the approval via LBC, he would have had to go to Manila in person to get it if his current extension was up in 2 days.

The PH loses so much money with the 16 or 24 month exit. Why there is such a requirement is beyond me.

Sure about that? Odds are (but not always) a Philippine owned airline gets revenue, and of course the international terminal free gets collected. Meanwhile you already paid your rent etc...

How many leave and not return? Yes there are airport taxes and such however is that not money you would have spent here. I spent 400 dollars in Singapore on various things. Money I would have spent here. So yes having us stay versus leaving profitable.

16 or 24 months is a long time but if they stay that long what is the diffrence to indefinate stay. There is nothing to gain by sending them away and evrtyyhing to lose. It is the logic behind the BB stamp and the new 6 month visa. Make it easier they stay spend money and never leave.
