Auto Body and Paint

Recommended Posts

Headshot

Since Skyman started a topic on house painters, it reminded me that I wanted to start topics on many subjects for services that that are often passed on word-of-mouth. In other words, if you don't have contacts, you don't find the person or company that provides the service. I will start these threads on as many types of services as I can. Note: I consider any specialty as a service, so you will see painters, plumbers, carpenters, masons, electricians, lawyers, medical specialties, dental specialties, diesel mechanics, gasoline engine mechanics, LPG engine mechanics and conversion, brake repair, auto body and paint, auto electric systems, etc. Also, if you think of other specialties that I miss, let me know, and I will add a topic. I will pin all of these topics, so they stick around over time.

So...if you know of a shop or independent AUTO BODY and PAINT guy that you would recommend, please put his name (or the name of his company), whatever contact information you have, where he is located (town or city), and why you would recommend him. Also, if you know details or his work (like what he has done for you and how long it has lasted), I'm sure that would be helpful to a lot of other members. If anybody has used the car dealers here for auto body work, I'm sure you know they are substantially higher than the small shops and independent mechanics.

Hamm

Even though I don't reside in the Phils at this point, I think this is a great idea. I've read a lot of horror stories about the incompetence and corners so many tradepeople cut to save or steal a few pesos. Makes me never want to build there. Those with ability and ethics are valuable and deserve recognition and business. It really pays to know who you're dealing with. As an example, several months ago Kuripot Hamm thought he could save a few shekels by scheduling a dental appointment for him and his wife in Cebu instead of here in the states. The guy had a field day drilling and filling on both of us. Don't even know how many of those fillings we've lost since then, but getting this taken care of ought to smart. As a side note, Kuripot Hamm then decided to save a few more shekels by taking a jeeney back to the hotel instead of a cab. After exiting the jeepney he noticed he and his wallet had parted ways. And for the rest of the day, like Dorothy repeats the phrase "there's no place like home", I silently repeated the phrase "it's more fun in the Philippines".

His workshop is right in front of Maria Luisa Village.

My old car is there right now. Hood repainted, idler arm replacement, upper arm bushing replacement, change oil, exhaust overhaul, aircon overhaul. Not really hi tech but good quality work.

I have Toyota Tamaraw that I plan to get restored.  Fairly extensive body work plus repainting. The vehicle is old, but I've already done fairly extensive work on it and it runs like a charm, just looks like shit, and if I don't do something about the rust during THIS dry season, then I'm afraid the next rainy season is likely to rust the body beyond repair.

I've got a mechanic that I trust 100% out here in the province, but he knows he's not a body work guy so he prefers not to do it.  He has recommended his friend out here in province as a body work specialist, and another guy as the painter.  Estimate so far is 40,000 peso for the body work and 30,000 for the painting (though haven't met the painter yet - he's coming on weekend).  It's likely 4 to 5 weeks for the body work, plus additional for painting, and the entire job would likely be here at my place.  There's still room for me to negotiate a better price.

Some months ago I was getting some other work done (cooling system) on the Tamaraw at Tri-J (As Fortuna Banilad location) and I asked them for quote on the body work.  They declined AT THAT LOCATION but said that another Tri-J location could do it.  We phoned them from Banilad at the time and they "eyeballed" the job at 40,000 peso without seeing the vehicle...  so I would expect their costs to be more than 40,000..  at least.  I plan to drive to the correct Tri-J location tomorrow to get a proper quote or estimate for the job.

Any body shop recommendations would be welcome.

Go to Millennium Car Shop in Happy Valley corner V.Rama.

I presume this is Millenium Car Service at 1st Happy Valley V. Rama Avenue, Cebu City, 6000 Cebu, Philippines +63 32 255 1801 .

Have not be able to get through to them by phone yet.  But according to the sign outside their place they do full detailing,, engine tuneup, engine oil change, brakes, suspension, car air con, batteries and accessories..  But no mention of body work or painting.  Do you have experience getting body work or painting done at this location?

[[[EDIT: Spoke to Millennium (as above)..  they do NOT offer body work or painting.  Millennium referred me to Cebu Ultra Automedics Inc. near Mango. investigating]]]
