Mactan Immigration Office

miles-high

I accompanied a friend (actually gave him a ride) to apply for his tourist visa renewal. We arrived there 1:25pm last Thursday. The digital counter was stopped at 8 indicating there were 8 “customers” before us but none waiting. We asked how long it would take to have his visa renewed. The officer said “5 minutes after you pay the fee” so my friend started filling the application, paid, stamped, etc. while I was looking at the wall clock.

It took only 12 minutes from the time we entered the office till we left the office. Very impressive.

I walked by the office around 11 am today. The counter indicated 6 and no one was in the office.

I would suggest anyone who wants a quick renewal to try BOI Mactan (in Gaisano Mactan Annex). The traffic lights at the end of the old bridge has been out of service for sometime now so I would suggest using Bridge No. 2 (as some locals told me that is the proper name for the new bridge, I don’t really know…)

Great report..  So someone could hop by the Gaisano office for a quickie on their way to the airport!

The traffic lights at the bridge have never worked in the 5 years i have been here.   I wouldn't change my route unless they were doing road construction or closing a lane

Greetings! I remember when it was working . It was OK, except when Mandaue light was out of sink. It was made to operate with a computer  controlled system, but none was connected to it, so they put it in auto mode. Not very flexable, so they went back to the traffic cop system. He dances most times, so I assume he is enjoying his job.

The only real problem with that bridge is WHY devote two side walks to pedistrians? Walk ways could be put under the bridge, and t more lanes could be put there for cars.

As for the practice of blocking the right turn lane comming off it with the green and white PUJ on an hourly basis, that needs to change. Put lane walls there, and keep that exit lane open will do a lot to easy backup.

Probably would exceed weight limits of the bridge by more than they already are.  They have standards of safety you know.

Exactly.   I believe they could make it a narrow four lane bridge if the pedistrian walkways were under the bridge.    As far as load limits etc.. well we'd have to look at the structural engineering reports.

yes and new slide rules for the team.

Hey Smokey you are off topic.   I am going to go ahead and  give you  a citizen citation for a  tier 1 offence.    thats  2 demerits.  Now no more straying!   8 more to go before you get banned!

To keep this on topic and to avoid any Demerits my way,  let me add that  when at the Mactan Gaisano getting your Visa extension , you can find the Slide Rule section in the school supplies section near the carbon paper .

Update on Gaisano Mactan Island Mall BI office :

Did my visa renewal there this week , in far less than16 minutes.. more likely 10 max. I was the only applicant there , with the 4 staff !

I did have a conversation with the lady who appeared to be in charge. She said that they will be busy in the afternoons from now on, as they will be processing all the " bulk applications " there, like the international schools etc. So its sounds like all those people hanging around Mandaue BI with large stacks of passports to be processed are being re-directed to  Mactan .. which sounds far too logical to be true ! I guess some Immigation officer at Mandaue will be out of luck ! Maybe its a consequence of recent events at Mandaue office !

it would have made more sense to have another office south of town in maybe Minglanilla or Talisay rather than have two north of. Whatever the improvement  in waiting time is, it is still just as much a hassle for people residing or situated anywhere south to get to the office in the first place - south of about Argao, Dumaguete is still just as easy to get to even when a ferry ride is involved. Waiting time is the least thing and besides it does not take all that long in the Mandaue BoI anyway. I got my last extension at Mandaue when I was staying in Compostela, and I would still use the Mandaue office if I was staying there. It wouldn't be worth going the extra distance to save yourself 30 or 40 minutes in waiting time.

A SATELLITE office of the Bureau of Immigration (BI) will open in Lapu-Lapu City today to cater to the needs of foreigners residing in Mactan and Cordova town.

As part of the agency’s efforts to bring public service closer to the people, the bureau will inaugurate today its new office at the Gaisano Mactan Island Mall, with Commissioner Ricardo A. David Jr. as guest of honor.

BI Cebu District 7 Alien Control Officer Casimiro Madarang III, the project coordinator, said the bureau entered into a memorandum of agreement (MOA) with Tai-Pan Development Inc., through its president Henry S. Gaisano II.

“This is our outreach program to serve our clients within the localities where they are staying and raise efficiency and effective public service,” Madarang said.

As stated in the MOA, Gaisano Mactan Island Mall will provide the 91-square-meter office of BI for free.

The mall management renovated the space to fit the specification of the BI. It also provided the furniture and fixtures, transaction counters, office desks and chairs, four sets of desktop computers with printers and the office’s internet connection.

For its part, the BI will shoulder the cost of the air-conditioning system and other expenses, such as office maintenance.

The new satellite office will cater to foreigners based in Lapu-Lapu City and Cordova town who need to transact with the BI for their immigration requirements.

“With the satellite office, they no longer have to travel to our Cebu District VII

office in Mandaue City to file their application for visa extension and other immigration documents,” Madarang said.

The new satellite office, located at the ground floor of the Gaisano Mactan Island Mall Annex Building, is manned by a team of five BI officers and employees.

All applicants who will transact with the bureau are required to be in formal attire.

Immigration transactions will be entertained from Mondays to Saturdays, from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Perhaps this is why they chose to put it in this location !

it's just ludicrous really. What is the actual distance between the two places anyway. The only really new thing about this and worth remembering, is that you can now get an extension done on a Saturday, which really could be useful to somebody.
