I know that as an Aussie visitor I can get a '21 day visa at the border' and then extend for whatever.

But I'm a bit confused by the Philippines Embassies web site.

There, it states, "Multiple entry valid for six (6) months $108.00".

And "Multiple entry valid for one (1) year $162.00"

Is this something new?

I haven't been in or to the RP for several years, has something changed?

Thanks in advance.

They are 9(a) visas and mean you can visit the Philippines as many times as you like within that 6 or 12 months, but you can only stay for 59 days on each visit (unless you get a visa extension). You get stamped for 59 days stay on arrival instead of the standard free 21 days

I thought it must have been something crippling like that.

Thanks.

Best information about philippine visa I found here

http://www.philembassy.no/consular-services/visa

D. The above-mentioned visas are for ENTRY purposes
only. Period of stay (which will not exceed 59 days) will be determined
by the immigration officer at the point of entry in the Philippines.
