I don't know how excited I am to have a bunch of Russians start pouring into the Philippines. Last time I was in Pattaya there were Russians everywhere and if you think Koreans are bad then you ain't saw anything yet.

Unfortunately those are the truest words that anybody ever wrote on the whole forum.  Its gonna be a disaster.

They are already there in Mactan disturbing others who have to sleep enough to endure a day's work by gobbing-off when they get home around 4am, maybe they're working the casinos?

I noticed the Russian girls in the new BKK airport when I was there with my family; hmmm!

life is so unfair. Just because there are millions of girls somewhere willing to drop their pants to guys half a century older than them for a few dollars isn't enough on its own to guarantee a plenti

Why would anyone want to fly a US airline? I prefer to spend my 18 hours with friendly air hostesses not over the hill wanna-be air marshalls with a chip on their shoulder.

As I mentioned earlier, the airline economists/accountants must calculate the cost of direct flights to and from the US. Technically, it is feasible as PAL does it but here’s the numbers: SEA to MNL

The Russian mob is fairly strong in Thailand. Several years ago, the were two Russian girls in Jomtien Beach who were double-tapped (shot in the head and heart while they lay in lounge chairs on the beach. The story was that they had tried to run away from the Russian mob, but the mob had found them and killed them so no other girls would get similar ideas. Hopefully, the Russian mob does not get a toe-hold in the Philippines.

PAL lists the flight as 8228 actual flight miles but on the boeing website the 777-300 listed range is 7930miles.

maybe be its miles and nautical miles

Maybe so, however, the great circle distance between MNL and YYZ is 7,143 nm...

The routing usually takes east of Okinawa and Tokyo, then toward ANC or Fairbanks (depending on winds, southerly routes to Vancouver or Seattle)… (it is not easy to see which is east or south on this North-centered map. ;)) So it would be OK non-stop to Toronto… coming back, it definitely needs refueling because of jet stream…

About Boeing “published” range information, there is always a possibility that an airline may install an aux fuel tank in the cargo compartment for whatever the reason (it usually takes 3 to 4 hours to install/detach it so it gives them some flexibility in case they need to change their city pairs). I flew a B737NG fitted with 4 airline container size aux fuel tanks in the cargo compartment. That made the airplane capable of a non-stop flight between Tokyo and New York…  :)

last time I was in BKK, our baggage carousel was beside one from Moscow.

2 of the Russians collapsed drunk before they even got as far as customs.

I wish they would put the Iron Curtain back up.

Particularly, given our overstretched force of "men in blue"....

Whoever said the aircraft sit on the rwy to depart, they sit on the taxiway waiting r a time  for the Pacificc Ocean crossing.  As to why they don't add more flight is that as mentioned the Phils is Category 2 which limits adding any flights.  If there was anyone who had any knowledge in the Phil aviation system they could have been Cat 1 years ago.  They refuse to hire anyone from a Cat 1 country regulatory agency to help them comply.  Instead they and all their relatives they've hired try to figure it out on their own.  Its amazing the phils can even hold on to a cat 2.  Upgrading to a cat 1 would be a boom for tourism and tax's, but that would make sense.  A trip to MNL in May to try to help them out again, only to be told that they know how to do it  They have no one to blame but themselves.

The FAA will within a 1-3 months go back to inspect the phils and see if they meet the Cat 1 standards and if they do they will be able to add flights and rates will drop and competition will increase big time.  Its been since 07 or 08 they lost Cat 1.  Their one inspection a year ago they failed miserably. Stupid of the phils to hire professionals to get the upgrade as bringing in rich people from foreign countries would be a boom to the economy, but from my experience not much makes sense from my visits there and the people in power have never completed a Business 101 course, as if they did, the GDP increases  would setting records.
