Why is that people who have no problem having a government run armed forces protecting their nation from harm, have a problem with a government run health care system protecting people from the financial disasters that occur from disease?

Ever notice - the only sitting Presidents to be killed, or to have attempts on their lives, seem to be the ones who are actually doing something POSITIVE for the country? No, I am not saying anyone

Well, I personally feel the last great President, and a man whom I hold a lot of respect for, was Ronald Reagan. Our military was the strongest in history, both prior to and since his Administration.

Justin Kredible can no longer reply. He has been banned from the forums for not apologizing, in public or private even, for calling me treasonous.

Please ban me as well, not because I agree with Justin Kredible, but because I can't believe you banned someone for their opinion and not apologizing to you for it. You sir, are a prick. I don't care about your political views, some I agree, some I don't, but you are a prick. Ban me...please.

Hey Thanks Paul!!

I think Headshot pretty much said it about the "kredible" cat couple weeks ago. He really added nothing except hate towards others. Don't know if the guy was just having fun or really believes all his hate, but if it's the latter, I truly feel sorry for him.

Good riddance!!

I want to know how a family of 4/5 is going to afford an additional $20,000 annually for insurance.

They are not.  The "source" of the article that forum member Streak03 is citing is a CNS, Conservative News Service, long known for posting bullcrap articles.

The actual out of pocket costs for a working family of four is $5,500 plus up to $3,300 for copays, meds and what not.

The $20K reference includes the average total cost, covered by the member, the employer, and goverment subsidy.  If you make more, you pay more.  If you make less, you pay less.

Posters - please check your facts before citing right wing, wacko websites.

Edit:  Here are some actual facts that you can peruse at your leisure.   http://healthreform.kff.org/subsidycalculator.aspx#incomeAgeTables

Please, that link is from 2010.

Put in 120,000 income, a family of 4 - age 48 for dad, in a high zone area.

Well, I get 19,000 PREMIUM, and and additional 12,500 out of pocket expense - and that's for 2014 and a family of 4. The IRS, what streak posted, was using 2016 and a family of 5.

It's even worse then he posted, and your own calculator suggests the same.

It benefits the poor - sounding a bit like, well, socialism.

We have no way to pay for it, and it's going to destroy the country - Greece, Detroit - whatever you want to be, ghetto or some European flavor - enjoy your changes

As for Social Security, anyone who is receiving SS retirement benefits earned them.  They (and their employers) paid into the system for years.  It's not their fault the politicians took that money and spent it on other things, that is not how the system was designed.  If you want to be mad at someone, blame the politicians who created this nightmare.  Throw rocks at them, not the victims.  Moreover, I don't know anyone who get's a "FAT" retirement check from SS.  Subsistence level yes, fat, no way!

Are you saying that most people put enough money into social security to be able to get payments for 20 + years while adjusting for inflation?

If so, I would like to contribute more of my money to the same "investment" vehicles producing those returns.

NO, I'm saying the politicians took what money was there and spent it long ago.  Had they not done that the SS system would not be in such dire straights now.

Let's put it this way, without Social Security income there would be a whole lot less Expats enjoying the good life in the Philippines.

Yes it would.  The reason it is in dire straights is because people are living longer.   That means people are taking more out of the system than what they put in.

Are you saying they shouldn't get them?  Or they shouldn't be paid to people who decide to live in the RP?  Or what?

Yes it would. The reason it is in dire straights is because people are living longer. That means people are taking more out of the system than what they put in.

That's a small part of it but the major problem is that the SS fund was stolen to cover some of the countries debt.  Had the fund been left alone it would be fine. Edited by SkyMan
