Correct: Here's a link to the document that caused hostilities between The US and Germany mate!

But please also consider those 79,000+American citizens (not politicians) who laid down down their lives to protect England from facism!

Yes and no.

The US Air Force did a great job in WW2. Even if the bombing did not achieve that much, they forced the German Air Force to come and get beaten by the Mustang. Which resulted in the total air superiority over Normandy.

But as I said, the US was protecting itself; its like the nonsense of landing in Normandy to free France. They landed in France (and remember that Britain (+ dominions) was the dominant force in Normandy - more ship, more men, more beaches...) because it was on the way to Germany. No other reason.

Complete baldersdash. Hitler declared war on the US - the US did not enter the European war at the request of anybody.

And before he did the US was making money hand over fist selling/providing crappy war supplies (eg obsolete lend lease destroyers) to Britain.

The only countries that stared down fascism were Britain and France. The US looked on it as a business opportunity till they got attacked.

Its amazing how little history yanks actually know.

that is because you only know history as you heard it from europe.. When Europe basically threw OUT the people and they landed in the us they found out soon wow they can make money there lets turn them into British subjects again or maybe slaves would be a better term... Hitler had his hands full and it was japan that got the us into the fight.

About 15,000 Americans were on the Bataan death march. There were over 60,000 Filipino soldiers on the march. The Filipinos died at a much higher rate than the Americans did.

Could that be because the march was IN the philippines . (( how many of them 15,000 could point on a map to where they were going to ?. in viet nam how many americans died compared to other countries fighting on the us same side.. Americans are always getting killed in far away lands ... Now who was it that started the war

It's no doubt because we have not yet read the Euro-centric history revisionists that started publishing in the mid-sixties.

ditto the Thai Bridge on the River Kwai 'Death Railway'.

number of farangs (British, Australian, Netherlanders, and Americans) killed - 16,000 (all of them documented, individually).

number of Asians killed (almost no Thais but Burmese, Malays and Indonesians) : between 100,000 and 200,000, nobody knows for sure

no Kiwis. Almost no New Zealand units were sent to Asia/Pacific in WW2 unlike WW1. The British seperated them from the Australians and almost all the Kiwis went to Europe, the Middle East and North Africa.

France didn't do such a great job of staring down fascism as the Germans rolled through there gangbuster. The French however did produce some excellent protest poetry and paintings during that time. A stare down? Not really. More like a blink. Face it, the Brit and French stare down of fascism worked only because America had their back.

Last we checked, in 1940, the Brits were on the verge of annihilation at Dunkirk, but for a weird "Halt" order from the German high command.

Standing up to fascism is much easier when American guns have your back and P51's provide air support.

In 1940, there was NO SIGN WHATSOEVER, that the US would join in the European war, and if they had, there were many who wanted to fight on Germany;'s side.

Ambassador Kennedy was vocal in his belief that Britain would not survive, and told everyone so.

He was wrong. We did remarkably well, and in the desert, were beating Rommel, before the US was involved.

Whilst not wishing to denigrate any of the US forces (and a lot of Americans came to Britain to fight long before the US Govt was involved), the one thing that America did do was to mobilse its massive production capacity, and that, more than anything else, helped the allies win the war on both fronts.

Well if you want full credit for staring him down you should also take the blame for not acting when Hitler re occupied the Rhineland. If you had there is a good chance the war would never have happened at all.

As for the crappy war supplies you could have refused them at any time.

True.

Fighting a war on two fronts is a massive risk, as is taking on Russia, (due to its size).

Russia could and did, just pull back and let the Germans advance until they had the problem of vastly extended supply lines.

Logistics is now well planned in any military activity, but back then, was more ad-hoc, and when it went wrong, was a disaster.

Americans are always confused about who despises them more: the Japanese whom they nuked, or the French and Brits whom they saved.

Germans seem to be the only ones who give America love.

I dont think that most Brits despise the Americans, but many are irritated by the attitude of SOME Americnas who seem to believe that they saved the world, whilst the rest of us just sat and watched.

(I am just talking about the attitude relating to WW2, and not about peoples feelings or ideas or events subsequent to that time.)
