Bisaya Word for the day

Recommended Posts

the_nanny

hey there! :D

i know there's a lot of people out there who want to learn the bisaya language.

each day i'll post one bisaya word and its translation. and at least one sentence with it.

to start off :D

Bisaya word for the day:

PANAG-HIGALA = FRIENDSHIP

this word here is one the words old folks usually use, thus making it one of original cebuano old words. right now you can replace that word with PANAG-AMIGOHAY/AMIGAHAY since it conveys the same meaning. :)

ex.

ang panag-higala namong duha mauy hinung-dan nilambo among negosyo.

translation:

our friendship causes our business to succeed.

BISAYA WORD FOR THE DAY :

BATASAN = ATTITUDE

ex.

Bati cya ug batasan = He or she has a bad attitude.

usually in basaya its either the adjective or the verb that comes first in the sentence. so word for word transalation is not really advisable.

Never heard of a bisaya dialect before.

I thought there were many bisayan dialects.

Like my family's original dialect is kinaray-a.

Actually this is more of a Cebuano.

Some term it Bisaya as it is used not only in Cebu but also on other

areas like southern Negros, Bohol, northern Leyte, sothern Masbate and a lot of areas in Mindanao.

yes you're right there's actually a lot of Bisaya language but what i'm sharing here are Cebuano Bisaya words that are common to most Bisaya language. :D

anyways, word for the day is:

PAG-LAUM (pronounce as PAG-LA-UM) = HOPE

ex.

ang mga bata karun mauy atong PAG-LAUM sa mas nindot na ka-ugmaun

english translation:

Salamat

our friendship will last forever

transalation = hangtud sa hangtud atong panag-higala-ay

ay is added at the last part to connect the subject to it's predicate.

ay is not really a word but rather a suffix that is added to a word to signify that the word is being use as a noun or subject.
