Well, I will not state that, simply because there are none "seen", that they are not on the island, somewhere. NPA, No Permanent Address.

It just puzzles me, where they should hide out. the last remnants of mountain villages are accessed now by Goevrnment which also does a lot of other things for them.

Most of the former "bases" are now planting trees and the peasantry NPA's members have surrendered their weapons.

But lets just say, the NPA Cebu is "stamby", i always liked that expression.

And hope it stays that way, even when the IB's go away and get replaced by the PNP provincial task force. We don't want people like Bob Wards wife seen involved in firefights with the newly rising rebels, right ?

Personally, I do not consider the NPA to be terrorists. They want the people on their side, to overthrow the existing government in the Philippines. However, and I may be wrong here, but I believe their numbers to have fallen significantly over the past twenty years. I certainly do not see the activity I once did, by them in the Philippines.

Considering anti-terrorism my primary field of expertise I have to disagree. Their sole objective is to overthrow the Philippine Government. They do this through killing, extortion, and torture of Political, Business and Journalists. They also extort Foreign Businesses and companies. To drive this investments from the country. They want to replace the Philippine Government with a Socialistic / Communist state. They may be lower profile however killing two Congressmen is not something that should be dismissed.

Us as expats will not normally see or hear the NPA as we are not part of the agenda set forth. They are funded by former Soviet Bloc and other EU countries primarily. So they tend not to target expats for ransom or to make a point.

Form more info on the funding : ( Coz i don't like you say Counries while in reality its just people or communist organisations IN these otherwise "normal" countries. but its just a word play.

The NPA derives most of its funding from supporters in the Philippines and Europe and from so-called revolutionary taxes extorted from local businesses. Together, the CPP/NPA has an estimated strength of over 10,000 members. have links with international terrorism, particularly with Jemaah Islamiyah and Al Qaeda. The MILF is suspected of training JI members at MILF training camps in the southern Philippines.

cebu ..?

The NPA is alive and well in the hills above Carcar. I know...because we went up in those hills last year to invite my wife's relatives to our wedding. I couldn't take you to the same locations to save my life because I was being directed at every turn...and it seemed to me that we went in circles a lot. I saw guys with sniper rifles and semi-auto pistols in some of the little settlements where we stopped to drop off invitations. I don't think they are using their weapons for bird hunting.

The good thing, though, is that I don't think these guys are at all interested in Kanos. They see Kanos as benign. They mostly go after corrupt officials and corrupt businessmen. When you hear about some businessman or cop getting whacked on Cebu and the crime never seeing a resolution, I would attribute it to the NPA. One of my wife's cousins was with two of his friends when they witnessed what I understand was an NPA hit. The two other guys are both dead now. My wife's cousin is still in hiding.

Countries was a wrong term. That would be State Funded and NPA is not a State Funded terrorist organization. Thanks for pointing that out. I was typing from memory and it must be going to the south.

Every time my wife and I go out to the farm, which is located about halfway between Bacolod and San Carlos, I get assurances from the family that the NPA won't bother me. I don't ask about it, they just volunteer that information every time I'm out there. Things that make you go hmmm...
