The Vietnam War experience

I don't think they're crazy. Those were their opinions and they has their reasons. I'm curious, we're they members of the Communist Party? If so, quite an elite group who may have had warm memories.

You would think so, but no... they were poor peasants. At the fall of communism, they didn't lose much money because they didn't have any as they were poor, but had several friends (old widowed women), that lost all their life savings. pity!

Here's a Vietnam war experience. My wife is Chinese Vietnamese. When the US pulled out she was 14, a freshman in high school. When the Viet Cong took the city, Saigon shut down for two weeks. After

Steve, I really hope you don't actually buy any of that bullshit they were spouting at the museum in Hanoi. If you do, then you dishonor those who served and died there.

That was a hard time and not many speak of it.. Hard to be there hard to come home too.

The worst part was returning home to be Spat upon and called baby killers so you kept your mouth shut.....

I returned home passing through Oakland California. I was required to wear my class A dress uniform. I got in an elevator with a male and female who looked like they were about my age, which was 22. The woman was staring at me and then spit on the floor. No one said a word and we left the elevator together. If I could go back to that day, I would be the only one walking out of that elevator. I should have beat the hell out of those damned bastards and left them in a bloody pile on the floor. Then they would really know what a baby killer I was.

Going to Canada (or anyplace else as a draft-dodger) was never an option for me. My father, who was a Lieutenant Colonel in the Air Force, would have killed me if I had done that. For me, it really hurt when, on his first day in office, President Jimmy Carter pardoned all of the draft-dodgers. That was the biggest betrayal of our men-in-arms that I have ever seen. I didn't, and still don't, think they should have EVER been pardoned. As far as I am concerned, they should have remained men-without-a-country for the rest of their lives. None of them should have been allowed to return to the US. That includes Bill Clinton, who fled to England for the duration of the war.

Jane Fonda went to Hanoi during the war to show her support for the enemy. She should have been denied reentry to America or even better, allow to enter and then hang her on national TV for treason. The stupid bitch was never punished for her treasonous actions. She was not punished due to her being an actor and especially her father Henry Fonda. Most Vietnam Vets still hate the old stupid bitch.

Not taking sides, I thought you were an American. Posting a picture that says, TO THE PEOPLE OF UNITED VIETNAM I WAS WRONG I AM SORRY and with medals given to American men who fought and died in Vietnam.

You should be ashamed of yourself for posting a picture like that and then saying you are not taking sides. Why are you not on the side of all the American boys who died in Vietnam? If you believe the lies in the picture then you are no better than the people who made the picture. Some of my close friends never came home. We met once on friendly terms, maybe its better we never meet again.

I just hope the posting of the contentious picture and then the deceitful picture was a tasteless stir and not his real beliefs, maybe he just doesn't understand where the line is. Perhaps he is having a snigger at what has been stirred up...if this is the case its better we focus on the valuable contributions in this thread.

Headshot has placed some most valuable factual contributions to this thread, Wombat some valuable stories & insights. Smokey & M60 generously shared real life experiences first hand, and Willie has shared second hand experiences consistent with what I have been told about the charming communist behaviors up to 10 years after the US left (something the do gooders don't want to acknowledge).

We shouldn't celebrate war...I believe we should hate war! If we are not learning from our experiences we are doomed to repeat them. Learning means accepting history and not rewriting it for political gain...learning means not being consumed in PC crap...learning means choosing new alternatives.

If any one thinks a communist country is better then move your damned ass to communist country, any takers, no, I didn't think so. Don't believe the communist propaganda. Well, if you move to a communist country you will be a communist or be imprisoned, tortured or just shot down in the streets for protesting.

Well good thing you didn't because prisons are full of those vets that couldn't cope.

Every American has their right to protest. Aren't those the rights you're fighting to uphold as a soldier? Not sure how she could be charged with treason if she wasn't employed by the State.

Anyway, as a soldier, you had a job to do... that does not mean that every soldier agrees with the politics of the wars they're fighting. The Vietnam war was a war of business. The U.S. had no other business in Vietnam otherwise. Lots of people got rich off that war and continue to live within wealthy family dynasties as a result. The soldiers were puppets in fighting a war no one wanted except the businessmen.

I hear you bud and totally agree. Change is painful. However, my in-law parents and grandparents all said that Lenin was a great man. I've argued with them till I'm blue in the face, showing all his cruelties. Doesn't work, so they must be crazy, right?

Living in a communist country isn't so bad. Quite peaceful, safe and usually clean. I lived in both China and Kazakhstan (during the communist era), and I can assure you that the U.S. is far more of a police state now than either of those two countries.

Communism ?! That's something i can share a lot about...(40+ years of an experience in Germany on both sides )

It's a Philosophical idea by a Philosopher. Nothing else. never was meant to work. I think Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels are still rotating in their graves that people really took that stuff up for granted.

Big laugh, you all been had...err, not really, because in the Communist manifest its is clearly state, that communism isn't practical and can not work. Unfortunately this was edited out of the original book. ooops..

Nether the less everybody ( The last commies and their western redneck counterparts) doesn't even know what he is talking about.

I always hear "Socialism" and "Communism" thrown in one pot. Huge difference !

Look at the experiment of Germany West and Germany East - both "jewels" in their respective political hemisphere. (I mean economically )

The West has had what they call the "Soziale Marktwirtschaft" (Social Market economy)

The East Socialism (in fact Communist which maybe leads to the errors.)

Both had National Healthcare, full pension benefits, full unemployment benefits, free this, free that and all the other things. The only thing the east was better was in Children day care. because the woman also had to work. Also easier to "hammer" the communist doctrine into the heads of the smallest when starting in Kindergarten.

Now honestly, its nothing wrong with Communism as an extreme idea, it just doesn't work.( Although the Italians had communist Government a few times, but more an Italian version which just shared the name)

But Socialism in a free market economy works. see West or now United Germany. And the other European countries as well, they are all pretty similar, but they name it different maybe.

One thing is wrong though completely. To worry about about it completely ! Some of the stuff you may like (if you belong to a nation which doesn't have any of it ) don't just declare everything evil which is new to you.

As i always love to say, the best compromise and solution is somewhere in the middle.

See, this is an attitude I've never understood...

You can condemn a war while supporting the troops themselves. If you feel like a war was unjust and wrong, those boys who died actively fighting were also victims of it. I just don't get that knee-jerk "you're an unpatriotic bastard not to care about our young people fighting and dying" reaction when someone disagrees with the politics behind going to war.

If anything, I'd think people would say, "Thank you with disagreeing with our government's tendency to pointlessly send our young men to their deaths in conflicts that are none of our business."

This thread is very painful to me....Having served in Vietnam and in the Navy from 1963-1970....I was never a "victim" of my Government!!!! I volunteered for duty in 'Nam and I'm damn proud of my service( I was only "in country" for 7 months) and I remain proud of my Country despite the Jane Fondas, The Ted Kennedys, the Clintons and the cowardly bastards that ran off with their tail between their legs to Canada. The only real effect the war had on me was a short period of "Survivor's Guilt".

Personally with some of the comments made on this board, I hope this thread is closed soon so that I won't get banned.....

I will never understand the feelings of soldiers who fought in that war......only they can understand that, however there were two opposing sides in that war and I'm sure that the vietnamese vets could give just as many stories of atrocities as the Americans..... they were fighting for their country and way of life also.....

Then why would you post in this thread other than to further stir things up more than they already are? :evan_iliadis: What value does your post serve? :yahoo:

Lighten up Bro! For the most part, this is an anonymous forum, not some last will and testament. It is meant for the open thoughts and gestures of its visitors WITHOUT censorship. There are no RIGHT or WRONG posts. Let it be and ride as is.
