CEBU CITY (3rd update, 3:46 p.m.) -- The number of fatalities in a shooting incident in Cebu City rose to five after the injured security guard died in a hospital.

The security escort of a bank teller who was brought to the Chong Hua Hospital died after he was shot by robbers, radio DYLA said.

Another security escort identified as Leofer Itak died of gunshot wounds.

The three robbers, believed to be members of the Ozamiz robbery group, also died after policemen responded to the incident.

The suspects carted away P1.2 million from a China Bank teller, who was about to deliver the cash to a money changer outlet inside Robinsons Place Cebu past 9 a.m., a radio report said.

The amount was based on the inventory conducted by authorities.

The teller and her security escort were already inside the mall when the suspects grabbed the cash from the teller.

Itak, who acted as lookout, was about to respond to the commotion but another suspect who is the robbers’ lookout shot him dead.

The two robbers inside the mall also shot the teller and her security escort, who was the latest fatality.

The robbers grabbed the bag and sped off.

The teller is still at the Chong Hua Hospital for treatment.

Two other policemen from Carbon Police Station, who just passed by at the area, were wounded after the robbers shot at them as well.

The two policemen identified as Police Officers 1 (PO1) Roy Ceniza and Jay Catacutan were brought to the nearby hospital.

All Cebu City policemen were immediately alerted and responded to the incident.

Responding policemen caught up with the three fleeing robbers, onboard a motorcycle and shooting happened.

Two of the robbers died on the spot while the other died at the Cebu City Medical Center.

The bag containing the cash was recovered.

At least 12 empty shells of .45 caliber pistol were also recovered.

Cebu City Mayor Micheal Rama lauded the policemen for their immediate response. He said he will extend assistance to those who were injured in the incident.

He also urged authorities to identify the robbery mastermind.

Investigation is ongoing. (Sunnex).

One of the things that has really impressed me since I came to this country is the professionalism and courtesy of the security guards you see virtually everywhere. My wife often says, "let's ask the

To me, this affirms the worries my wife and I had about our safety when we visited Cebu last November. Some posters on this forum said that we should be not be worried about our safety when I express

i will admit i have a weakness for a women in uniform and i sure would not mind a full body frisk from a couple of the female guards.. wonder if it would work to say your carrying a rod in your pants

The newspapers have not run the story but it has been on the radio today.

Allegedly this morning robbers from one of the local gangs hit an armoured vehicle exchanging monies.

Allegedly an initial shootout took place outside the food court with one guard killed and numerous injured.

Police pursuit resulted has resulted in the deaths of 3 (of 4) of the robbers and the recovery of 1.3M PHP.

Sadly both guards have died

The radio story has changed a little in 2 reports & newspapers have yet to run the story.

Was anyone near Fuente this morning?

Apparently the robbers exited down Ramos and lost a shootout with the Police near Casino Espaniol

I guess we will know what happened later tonite

Sad.

Thats quite a cheaky robbery. Inside a mall in broad daylight in the middle of the city. A guarded bank security escort. Also quite good intel on the robbers side. They must have planned it well.

Not good enough though.

Well, they got 'em. Police isn't that bad, there is hope.

The police were tipped off, the gang had been in a safe house in Mandaue for about a month..the police were already on high alert & the robbers chose to escape past the police station. The police did an excellent job today...almost a perfect score & sends a very clear message to criminals.

All intel is still being collected looking for the mastermind still and it a good thing. I note there are 7 guests viewing this thread as I type.

What a terrible waste. Sorry for the families of those hurt while just trying to be good citizens, and I am glad that the evil acts vented by these robbers received the just Karma their ignorant actions warranted. Thumbs up on the quick responses of the Cebu police. These criminal's careers have been expired.

Mae just told me she was walking up the steps near Cebu Pacific when she saw a fella walk up to a Security Guard and shoot him. She then ran for cover.

I am torn between whether I feel this was good thing or bad thing. It is just money and two innocent people lost lives in the process. Would they have lost life if the police did not get involved? That we will never know.

The point the police responded and handled the situation is a good sign. It shows us they are actually trying to get a handle on crimes by gangs and individuals.

Will that translate further and quell some of the violence that has erupted in the country in recent months. I think not. The police force is just to small and under funded.

My prayers for the families of the two individuals and police that were injured or killed.

We were there! Didn't have a clue what was going on. I heard a "pop", then moments later police cars were screaming everywhere around us, to the point that we had to move out of the way. A security guard told us there was someone that got shot, then shortly later we heard that an armored car had been held up.

Maybe I missed something, but it sounds like the police didn't actually get involved until after the robbers shot the teller and security guards. The exchanges with the police didn't occur until after the robbery during the robbers' attempted getaway.

That would fit with our encounter. We walked past Robinson's from Jones, then down F Ramos. I heard the "pop" when we were just turning the corner onto F Ramos, then we were down about a block and a half before the police cars started screaming around us with guns drawn. They went down F Ramos and out of sight, encouraged by a mass of guards pointing the way.
