The list is good. But be careful about apples. Unfortunately they also have the biggest concentration of insecticides, fungicides, etc. I am told that NZ is a safer source for this fruit.

I avoid buying ANY produce which comes from China. Too many chemicals banned in NA and the EU. In North America we avoid Mexican produce for the same reason.

When did fish become part of the fruit and vegetable group?

It is a fun list to read though...not all correct, but fun. Needless to say, most fruits and vegetables are good for you if not taken to extremes.

Agree. Practically all veg and fruit are good, even if only for the fiber.

Let's face it, how many fat vegetarians have you ever come across?

And besides looking out for insecticides etc, keep in mind that a lot of small farms use human manure.

Which is not really a problem. Once the E-coli is dead, it's just dirt. Sydney used to pump millions of tons of raw sewage into the sea off Bondi, until they discovered they could make money by composting it with vegetative waste like wood chips, garden clippings, and other biodegradable garbage. Due to us being omnivorous, our leavings are up there with the best fertilisers, and it's a vastly underused and overlooked resource.

Do they wear gumboots?stick_poke.gifsorry

Yeah it's the heat generated in the composting that kills the E-coli. Even the concept of what they do stinks.

Well Bob, far be it from me to speak with any authority on medical/food matters, but modern drugs are largely made by synthesising the active ingredients in plants.

But hey, if you feel safer being a sceptic, by all means go ahead.

Sure drugs can be either animal, mineral or vegetable. But each of those categories contain things that can kill you stone dead !

I'm sure the post has the best possible intentions. I am just trying to help people to think carefully about where their advice came from.

My parents, both who are currently in a low-cholesterol program were told by their nutritionist and doctor to stay away from AVOCADOS since it's 98% fat and has the highest level of protein that can contribute to blockage. My dad is a survivor of heart attack. Avocados is a real no-no for him.

Now each person is different and react differently to foods, but you may want to have the nutritionist and doctor check the following articles. Avocados are about 15 percent fat, but the majority of the fat is monounsaturated fat. They are high in protein for a fruit, but are only about 2.4 percent protein. They have been shown to increase the good cholesterol while decreasing the bad cholesterol.

The first link goes to "Proc. of Second World Avocado Congress 1992 pp. 25-35" Do you think this is an impartial report?

They have trolled lots of really old papers looking for support for their industry. Pure pseudo-science.

The second link is trying to sell Avocadoes grown in pixie dust.

And the third is selling nutritional supplements.

Why is it that people hate "big pharma" but love "big supplement". Remember one of the industries is regulated, and the other makes lots of money form peoples gullibility!

Don't you just love the TV adverts for things like Arthro? There are lots on Wa Wa Wee.

They prattle on for 28 seconds about how it will do this and that and perform so and so miracle.

And then....

Right at the end....

In the last two seconds....
