Cut in Military benifits

Recommended Posts

In the news, just a few moments ago, they announced that they are looking at cutting military benifits to balance the budget. I was so pissed off, I was walking around in circles bitching to my wife, a Filipina, about how these guys have to sleep in fox holes, put up with heat and freezing temperatures and every day put their life on the line and say to us...sleep well tonight, I will not let anything happen to you on my watch. And these frigg'n congressman want to take away their benefits. I was so steamed up I went out on the porch and just as I was about to close the door, I said to my wife "when I hear sh*t like this, it makes me sick and tired of this country and brings me one step closer to moving to the Philippines." Just as I was about to close the door, she said "do you want to hear something funny"? I said sure. Then she said...If you move to the Philippines, you'll be tired and sick.

Don't you just love that gal?

I think I would have liked to see a drastic cut in foreign aid (most especially Pakistan - they got over a billion dollars every year for last decade) over any cuts to military personnel; active, reti

I know I am late in replying to this thread, but have you ever checked the voting records of Republicans vs Democrats when it comes to support for Veterans? I also would like to know your source rega

Fine, start with the people that did nothing for what they're getting.

The American public wanted a disillusioned military-hating socialist-loving snake oil salesman in charge and it was bound to happen. When you put a wolf in charge of the heard of sheep and then one should not be too surprised if there are bits taken out of our asses. Obama will be reelected in a landslide and then we all will take that thrill ride together to the bottom of the abyss, the fix is already in boys..

I told my son to never join the military, rather instead let some damn cowardice politically-correct God-hating tree-hugging socialist-groupie send off his kid to get killed trying to protect his worthless disloyal anti-American ass.

Can you tell me where you heard this report?

I belong to two Veteran Groups on Facebook and receive daily updates from Military.com and no one has mentioned using the Military of Veteran Benefits in order to balance the budget since April of this year.

However, after the last State of the Union Michele Bachmann in her response did suggest that VA Benefits be cut - there was such an uproar that she had to walk back that statement.

Recently Senators Coburn of OK and McCain of AZ proposed an amendment to the Military & Construction Bill (VA is part of that), that would require Vets receiving Disability due to exposure to Agent Orange to prove where, and when they were sprayed with A/O - that amendment was soundly defeated

If you really care about your benefits - don't worry about who the President is - look at your Representative and Senators - don't listen to their rhetoric and how they wrap themselves in the flag - look at their Voting Records - check out the Rating Systems of the DAV, VFW, IAVA, American Legion and other Service Organizations and then make your determinations on who you think should get your vote.

I won't say anything more, because I don't want to become political - but look at their records - my suggestion - go back to at least 2000

PS - there is talk about canceling the COLA Increase for both VA and Social Security, along with Military Retirement Benefits - that may be what you heard on the news.

Just a thought, although I am sure it will be a very unpopular one. When I first joined the Navy, it was to avoid getting drafted into service in Vietnam. That was when we still had draft boards, back before the national lottery. Military was paid a WHOLE lot less, but most every male was eligible to be drafted. Maybe we are headed back to that as we struggle to cut excessive government spending. I'm not saying it would necessarily be a good thing, but I suspect it could reduce military spending by a large chunk.

You are saying that we should go back to the draft and pay the Draftees less money?

Interesting - I got out of the Marine Corps in 1969 - but it seems we got supplements for Laundry Service, The Enlisted, NCO, SNCO and I would suppose O clubs had significantly reduced booze, Cigarettes on base with like $.25 a pack in Vietnam they were $.15 and a carton was $1.40. We got three or more squares a day - at one time I heard that wounded Soldiers coming out of Iraq had to pay for their own meals at the hospital - don't know if that was true or not

I think we need to study that idea some more

I HOPE they didn't have to pay for their own meals! That's deplorable.

I don't think a return to the draft will ever happen, talk about politically incorrect!!!!!!! I was just thinking out loud that if they are talking about cutting military benefits, maybe that's what someone is thinking. You got out in 69...it was in the '70's that we moved to an all-volunteer force, and the pay and benefits went up substantially because they knew people wouldn't enlist for what they had been paying during the days of the draft. Even after the substantial pay increases, a lot of the lower enlisted were eligible for the advance payment of the earned income credit, so you can imagine what the military got paid before that. I remember back in boot camp in '67, the Drill Instructor saying "if you needed civilian clothes, a car, or a wife, the Navy would have issued them with your seabag." He didn't have to add that for E-1 through E-3 at least, they couldn't afford any of the 3.

I suppose if we are going to seriously look at this, we don't want the military to be accused of sexism, so nowadays the draft should apply to everyone, male and female alike...like Isreal and several other countries do.

With the economy the way that it is I know it is not popular but the best thing to do for the country long term is to cut cost. As things get better then you add your pet entitlement programs, not now. And especially on the back of needed services and programs such as the military. Don't believe me, ask the RP. The RP is hit every year with natural disasters but because the AFP is a skeleton crew at best, they are not in position to aid in rescue efforts on a regular basis. Thats due to the the AFP and the PNP being the slush fund for crooks like the Ligots and the country suffers. if the States continues as James actually stated in his post the US military will be on the road towards becoming like the AFP. Call me crazy but we have as president a man who hates his country. Read his writings do a Google search instead of looking at his Colgate smile and teleprompter speeches.

"Military men are just dumb, stupid pawns to be used to control foreign policy" a quote made by Henry Kissinger. Google it if you don't believe me.

In reality they could care less about retired and former military, as you are a perceived drain on the system. Just do some research into how the VA treats disabled vets and that will tell you all you ever need to know.

None of my children will ever serve in any military, in any country, period. As the economy continues to fall apart in the USA, they will not have a shortage of applicants who have no alternative.

I did my time in the USMC so I can say this stuff ; to anyone who wants to hate on me.
