Southern Style Grits

Recommended Posts

Greetings!

I have been in Cebu for several years now, am from the south, and really miss the home

style food. I tried grits (# 14, and 16) in Lapu Lapu market, but they were too course for

my taste.

I have noticed old plate size grinding stones from hand grinders used as decorations here,

and thought maybe I can grind it smaller myself, (In spite of the grit produced that grinds

your teeth), so I ask around about a grinder and as usual my request was misinterpreted

at the grit dealer.

When I followed his directions to a mill dealer, (so i thought), in the market, I found instead

a modern electric powered grist mill!!!!!!!!!! They have 3 or 4 mills hooked up to a pulley

system like in the old cotton mills, and grind not just corn grits to a fine powder like

state side, but also rice, chocolate, and make peanut butter!

6P per kilo to grind!

Now I am in hog heaven!

Time to make sausage!

See next recipe for that.

Also note the cornbread recipe, you can make corn bread from grits also.
