Hello Everyone

I am sending this same message to several groups, so you may read this

elswhere.

I hear many complaints about xoom.

I think Larry in Dumaguete would rather stick needles in his eyes than

use xoom again.

However, my experiences are different.

I have just sent money by xoom again today, to my godson's sister.

Here is the time line for the transaction, all the times are

Philippines time:

11:07 am Transaction initiated by me in Australia

11:36 am Xoom advises money is avaiable for collection

11:52 am My message to my godson's sister telling her to collect the

money

12:09 pm Xoom shows disbursement being processed

12:29 pm Text from my godson's sister saying she has the money in her

hand.

Total time from start to finish 1hr 22 minutes.

It was only a birthday present so I sent the minimum they will allow,

which is usd $25. The fee for sending usd $25 is only usd $3.50.

I was happy with xoom before and am still happy with xoom.

Please let us know about your experiences. Good or bad!

Regards: Jim

I used them many time with no problems. The only problem ever was the intial security measures they went through to verify my identity and credit cards. Then it was smooth sailing at 1/2 the price of WU.

I've used Xoom a couple of times without issue. The transactions weren't as fast as Jim's. They usually took 2 days from the time I initiated them on the internet.

I don't use Xoom anymore but not because of problems in service. I tried Xoom as an alternative to Lucky Money but Lucky Money was faster and cost slightly less, overall, in fees and conversion.

I agree Jim ...... I think most people that have trouble choose the bank check method of payment and there is a big difference in the time it takes to complete the transaction ....... BUT THEN THEY TELL YOU THIS ON THE WEBSITE ......... I always use PayPal so I have a tracking tool to use if things go wrong ....... here is my latest transaction .......

2007-07-03 12:06 Transaction Complete; Thank You

2007-07-01 03:34 Processing Disbursement

2007-06-30 19:33 Money Available for Recipient

2007-06-30 19:33 Payment Authorization Successful

2007-06-30 19:30 Processing Payment

2007-06-30 19:23 Processing Payment

2007-06-30 19:07 Processing Payment

2007-06-30 19:06 PayPal Payment in Progress

2007-06-30 19:00 Transaction Initiated

Now please not that the 30th and the 1st were Sat and Sun and the banks in the PI were closed and they are a whole lot cheaper than WU ----------IMHO

I used xoom to send money monthly to a peso account in Ormoc Leyte.

It is very convenient for me, a few clicks and I am finished. And so far

safe.

Xoom gives you an update via email of where the money is and you

can track the transaction.

Most of the time the money is in the account after a day or two.

I don't believe that the money will be in your account

within a day because that has never happened to me. To me time is not

really critical because I used to send money via LBC and that at least

took a week.

Not to derail the thread, but you used PayPal to send money TO a Philippine bank? I was under the impression that they only let you make payments FROM Philippine banks at this time. Has that changed?

Xoom is the transfer agent based out of San Francisco, CA. So when the Pay Pal payment is sent, it is through a US based company first.

Think I am going the same as everyone else on the forum...

The first transfer was painful and took longer than expected... verify... re-verify... and then one last time... spread over about 36 hours time...

It wouldn't have been so annoying ( and funny for that matter ) if not for the fact that I was staying about 3 blocks from their office at the time... and the bank account the transfer was being done from was 2 1/2 blocks away from them... it got to the point that ( worried the money wouldn't make it on time ) I was actually offering to come to their office to show them identification etc. ...

On a more positive note... after that... funds coming from same bank... same person picking up the funds in the Philippines... I get a simple verification that I want the transaction to occur... and thats that... and its fast...

It will also go directly to any local account here in the Philippines. At first I thought it is just the Equitable Banks and later I saw signs that Lhuillier Pawnshop are accepting it. For the recipient, no more queing in the bank...you can check it out in your own bank account and atm! And will be credited the same day if transaction is not done on checking account. :crack-up:

I'm looking at using xoom. I couldn't find any information that the collector of the money would need to know. What does the collector of the money need? ID? What kinds? etc. Thanks for any help.
