Green Trail Riding in Cebu on Dual Sport Motorbike

Recommended Posts

David_LivinginTalisay

David, I'm glad that you have taken the trouble to upload this information but it is not so useful to those who don't have a GPS or a web enabled cell phone while on the road.

The maps provided show such little detail, and the roads are so twisty that it is very difficult to determine where the course lays.

A geotagged picture of each junction along with information about the nearest kilometer post would help in navigating these trails when on the road.

I have traveled the national road possibly hundreds of times, but I have no idea where the vegetable highway starts or finishes.

On the Carcar-Barili Road, the start of the Vegetable Highway (about 6.55Km from Carcar Roundabout), is clearly signposted, so nobody ought to say they dont know where the North end of the Vegetable Highway starts?

(OK if coming from Barili, it is more difficult as the Signpost/Notice Board is facing in the wrong direction).

This is what Sports Tracker did record from U-Rock to Bilten's House:-

This is what Sports Tracker did record from Greg's house to HeyMike's Hey Gurly Bar:-

http://www.sports-tr...0eoe81s8nhe26pf

Here is that GPS Track, converted to KMZ and imported to Google MyMap:-

http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?hl=en&ie=UTF8&msa=0&msid=201578951975229333411.000499f9086508b485a40&ll=10.055065,123.531733&spn=0.046482,0.084028&t=h&z=14

As you can see, it is better than Google Maps, as even the Roads they do show, are WRONG!

It is a slow painful process with Google Map Maker as some edits need approval, then one can add Roads to it until Approval given. Edit an Intersection between road 'segments' and the whole Road segment moves with it - meaning editing the road segments on both sides to re-align, Try moving the Intersections first, and it needs Approval! That is my experience of using Google Map Maker anyway/ Ok for brand new - but pain in the ass to edit exist Roads that Google have wrong!

Nice day out David and thanks for taking the time to report it.

Of particular interest was the little back road we found between Barili and Dumanjug. (Pity Hey Girly was closed) I hope viewers reading the report will consider seeing some of these back roads. The scenery was super as was the road, a little narrow how ever in excellent condition.

all in all apart from my xt failing to start again we all enjoyed a great safe day out.

For readers spending most of their time in Cebu city I would strongly suggest, take time out and follow the itinerary David posted, makes an excellent pm break and one gets a gets a feel of provincial life plus the wonderful views.

MyMap of the LinC GreenLane Ride #1

Seems Google have taken to 'paging' MyMaps, so you you need to go to Page 2, to see the Route to Dumanjug, that we did last Sunday with Brice (RBM) and other Members of PEACE RIDERS MCC.

TIP: Please take care when wanting to add a REPLY to a Thread.

Some already complain that my posts have too much 'content;, so instead of hitting the [Reply] button on the bottom of an individual Post, try the [Add Reply] 'Button' of the Thread, to add your Comment. Or take the Trouble to 'Edit' what you are Quoting - want to comment on a particular Photo, Sentence or Paragraph, then leave that in, but DELETE the rest - we already READ it and SEEN the Photos!

GPSBabel is a freeware program that converts GPS data from one format to another. You can download it and run it on almost any computer, but its command-line interface requires some getting used to -- so I've created this on-line gateway that lets you access a copy of gpsbabel running on GPSVisualizer.com. Of course, you can't use this page to communicate with your GPS receiver -- and a few of GPSBabel's more advanced options (filters and custom XCSV files) aren't included.

NOTE: For many input formats -- including GPX, OziExplorer, Geocaching.com LOC, Garmin Forerunner, Cetus GPS, IGC, and more (including some that GPSBabel can't read, like NetStumbler binary files) -- you can also convert your GPS files to plain text, GPX, or Google Earth KML with GPS Visualizer's conversion tool. GPS Visualizer's utility has these advantages: a simpler interface; the ability to add estimated elevation (via SRTM and USGS data), speed, course, slope, and/or distance fields; and CSV or tab-delimited text output which is more user-friendly than GPSBabel's. (My GPS file converter can also read human-created plain-text input files more easily than GPSBabel.)

Google Earth: To convert files to KML/KMZ for Google Earth, you might want to try GPS Visualizer's Google Earth input form, which has more options than GPSBabel.

Your file was successfully converted. You can download it using the link below.

Bret (Govoner_ and a friend of his, on similar Yamaha 125cc Street Bike met up with me Thursday morning, and we rode the Magahaway Mountain Ride, including a couple of dead-end side Roads (for not stopping and checking if we were still on the 'main' road, leading to the Tabunok-Toledo Road). Initially the Road looked better than that leading to the Tabunok-Toledo Road, which is why I did not stop and check the GPS position on the Map.

Then my phone battery went flat, so could not check any more, or add additional photos. Must remember to bring along the 'spare' phone battery next time (better still fit the 'Cigar Lighter' power outlet to my XT225 and use the 12 Volt Nokia Charger)

Malubog - The 'Enchanted Lake'

by Britster on Feb 19, 2011

Edit Map | Edit Pictures | Edit Description | Delete

Toledo City, CEBU, Philippines

Motorcycling | 50.6 miles

Story:

I have a Yamaha XT225 'Serow' that is perfect for exploring Trails and climbing the many mountains in Cebu, and negotiating river crossings, deeply rutted dirt tracks, and boulder strewn tracks.

I was keen to take the tracks to find Malubog Lake (The 'Enchated Lake), after reading about the Trip 'Lars' posted to hisBlog, along with photos and Video:-

http://www.ycebu.com/Articles.aspx?gArt1id=MalubogLake

http://www.toledocity.gov.ph/highlights_of_toledo/tourist_destinations/malubog_lake

MALUBOG LAKE

The serene atmosphere of Malubog Lake invites everyone to be one with nature. Thick vegetation surrounding the place let you forget the hustle and bustle of urban living; a very good place to relax those frayed nerves. Malubog Lake can be reach through the trail that cuts across Barangay Bagakay. Aside from its natural ambiance, Malubog Lake would have the amities that will make your visit or stay a very convenient and comfortable one. The site will boost of a Livelihood Training Center, Cottages for guests and visitors, souvenirs Shops for items one would take home as pasalubongs, a resort hotel with the best viewing advantage of the lake replete with a casino, floating restaurants to add excitement while dining and enjoying the cool breeze from the lake or stretch your stay to the limit and engage in game fishing.

Tips:

One has to 'Ford' the River to get to Mulabug from the South (Naga-Toledo Road), so likely to get you feet wet on a motorcycle (unless after prolonged dry season)?

The East side of the Lake is on private land that was owned by Carmen Copper Corporation (now part of Atlas Consolidated Mining Philippines). Travelling around the SE corner of Malubug Lake, required us to pay Php10.00 each as 'Toll Fee', and then we we required to have a Pass or a 'Waiver', at the Security Station of the Dam Weir. The Security Officers issued ua with such Waivers so we could head towards the Track that would eventually lead to the Trans Central Highway. However we did not fancy riding in the dark and wanted to get back to Tabunok before darkness fell (around 6pm).

David excellent report and photos. lets hope the work you put into this creates some interest as must be many guys out there with road bikes interested to join us.

We ride safely and slowly, out to explore a bit and enjoy the day. Fortunately with the bikes we are able to get to some relatively out of the way places, and believe it or not yes, there are some unspoilt places left in Cebu.

Any readers interested in joining up for next green trail ride are very welcome to join us. Its a great day out ending up at Rogers Place in Tabunok for a few beers.

Bruce, I am glad that you and Sky and Bret enjoyed the Green Lanes Ride to Malubog "Enchanted Lake" and the BBQ @ Rogers Place after.

OK so we got wet feet on this particular ride going through the 'Fords', crossing the River and Creeks, but the 'locals' were doing this 3 up on 'U-bone' motorcycles.

Yamaha-YBR125-05-06-07-08.jpg

Bret managed OK on his Yamaha YBR125, so this shows that anyone with a motorcycle could join in a lot of these 'Green Lane' Rides. Perhaps 'Cruisers' with lower ground clearance are not so suitable for riding through rivers however.

Not sure why, but 'EveryTrail' did not read the GPS Co-ordinate Latitude/Longitude, that PicsGPS added to the Excif Information to my and your Photos Bruce.

Pixgps_icon.gifPixGPS

Use your GPS to track your digital photos.

How does it work?

When you take a photo with a digital camera, the exact time will be stored in the EXIF meta data. Most GPS Receivers can create a track log when you move around. Each 'point' in this track will at least have the exact time and longitude and latitude. By comparing the EXIF meta data of each photo with the GPX track log, PixGPS can calculate the exact latitude and longitude for each photo and store this in the EXIF meta data of each photo.

EveryTrail for some reason could/would not read the GPS Co0-ordinates that PixGPS added to the Photo's Exif Data.

had no trouble reading that same GPS co-ordinate Exif data that PixGPS had added.

Here is that photo that you took Bruce, at the 'Y' intersection on the West side of Malubog Barangay Lake that took us to the North side, and later the South side of 'The Enhanted Lake'

Green Trail Ride #3: Malubog 'Enchanted Lake' Trip - Saturday 19th February

NB: One needs a Travel Permit 'waiver' in order to travel on the private land of Carmen Copper Corp.

Atlas Consolidated Mining and Development Corporation (Atlas) was incorporated in 1935.

Atlas is listed on the Philippine Stock Exchange (PSE) and was, until May 1995, listed on the American Stock Exchange (AMEX).

corporate_img1.jpg

In addition, Atlas incorporated a 100%-owned subsidiary, Atlas Exploration Inc. (AEI), to host, explore and develop copper, gold, nickel and other mineral exploration properties. AEI will also explore for other metalliferous and industrial minerals to increase and diversify the mineral holdings and portfolio of Atlas.

Today, Carmen Copper Corporation is 54.46% owned by Atlas and has been successfully rehabilitated to become the country's largest copper exporter.

Green Trail Ride #4 - anyone up for it?

My Son Paul arrives next Monday evening (Feb 28) and on 4/5/6 March we are off to Alona Beach, Bohol for PhilHash2011, and may well stay an extra 1 or 2 nights to see more of Bohol.

Once back in Cebu will go on a Motorcycle Ride from Tabunok-Toledo Road, up into the Mountains and Atlas Mines

(as we did on the Ride back from Malubog 'Enchanted' Lake, but in reverse, then instead of heading for South Side of the Lake, we head to the Trans Central Highway).

Resized to 92% (was 700 x 379) - Click image to enlargeToledoWarfRd-TransCentral.jpg

My intention is to take that Lime Green Trail from Magdugg to Trans-Central Highway, then to Balamban.

49540_100000585282494_2961584_n.jpg

I fancy to take up an offer of 'Guenther's' for lunch of "ovenroasted pork with mash potatoe or rice and a bit of a veggie siding plus free softdrink and coffee" for Php150.00.

Any other 'Bikers' fancy joining in such 'Green Trail Ride' with Lunch @ Zwiebels also?

Myself, and my son Paul, will stay overnight @ Sailors Cabin most likely.

Fancy more exploring around Balamban, like finding this place:-

Bruce,

My son Paul's flight back to UK is Friday 18th March, so not a lot of time in between you back in Cebu and him leaving, but it could be done?

Any others interested in joining in such ride along the backbone of Cebu from Campo 4 to Trans Central Highway (than ride to Balamban, lunch @ Zwiebels, find this UNDERGROUND RIVER OUTLET, CASILI SPRING, ARPILI, BALAMBAN:-stay @ Sailors Cabin 1 night, back to Cebu by another Route?)
