I bet the Koreans will not be so crazy about visiting the Philippines now.

It's NOT their fault. All countries must send the Philippines a few hundred million dollars to upgrade their equipment and training.   <sarcasm>

Is this still a misunderstanding? When does something go from a misunderstanding to a crime in 'filipino mentality'?

Rolando has managed to to place the Philippines in the limelight once again. The old adage one "Ah Shit wipes out 20 attaboys" comes to mind. Anybody want to hazard a guess at how many Hong Kong nationals have called their travel agents and canceled their trip to the Philippines? Anybody want to guess how much this will cost the tourist industry? This incident reinforces the idea that the Philippines is a lawless, violent society where personal safety is in doubt at all times. Commitment to a long term mental health facility would seem to be in order.

"The hostage-taking came hours after a South Korean man was killed in a separate attack on a vehicle by gunmen elsewhere in Manila. Two of his companions were seized at gunpoint but later released.

The motive for that attack was not clear, although kidnap-for-ransom gangs often target foreign tourists and businessmen in areas near Manila and in the provinces.

Police said the incidents were not related.

Monday's bus hijack recalled a similar hostage-taking in 2007, when a troubled civil engineer armed with a grenade took over a bus and held 30 children but freed them after a 10-hour standoff with police.

The 2007 drama took place near Manila city hall, just off Rizal Park."

Ahhh just a little misunderstanding

there was me last week saying that the kidnapping and murders of foreigners in the Philippines is overstated.

then a few days later some Korean dude is shot dead by carjacking thieves and a bunch of Hong Kong tourists get their bus hijacked and held to ransom on the same day.

if there were few reasons why people from Hong Kong and Korea would possibly want to bother turning up in the Philippines last week, there's a lot less this week.

and it plays on the news too. Hostage crises always do. This is the first time a news story from the Philippines has led on UK national radio news bulletins since Typhoon Ondoy this time last year.

What a farce this is becoming. Now we have lost interest in the hostage taker while we focus on the brother who has been interfering in the negotiations by contacting by cell phone. The PNP have tried to remove him but only after he spoke to all the reporters present.

The PNP will take years to recover from this given these are 2 of their own

GUNSHOTS...!!!!

the chances of a botched 'rescue' and a few more dead Asian tourists must be pretty good.

they could have just asked the first three guys they bumped into inside the Israeli embassy, which is not all that far away, to finish eating their felafel and come give them a hand, and it would have been all over about eight hours ago.

Filipinos and their pride.
