I've always wanted to make this dish, and today I tried it. However, it didn't work out that well so I didn't take any pics. I had too much charcoal, no lid over the grill and I used a 0,33 liter can instead of a 0,5. I also cut the can too low, and had problems having the chicken sit properly on the BBQ. You might use some wire to support it.

The result was so-so. The ass area was well done, skin a bit black but still very tasty and the meat was quite juicy. The locals loved it. The top(neck area) was not roasted enough, so I had to slice it and BBQ until done - a bitter defeat.

OK, but I'm on to something. You need:

A raw chicken

A 0,5 liter beer can

A BBQ grill with a lid to cover.

BBQ sauce

Salt

Pepper

Paprika powder or other spices you like

Now, cut the can and remove the top. Use a scissor or a knife, be careful - this is sharp. Drink half the beer and leave the rest inside.

This is the tricky part; shove the can up the chicken's ass and ensure it's properly seated on the grill. Brush it with the sauce, add the salt and spices. Don't let the charcoal be too hot, and make sure no charcoal is put beneath it - only around. Don't worry - it's going to be fried anyway.

I've heard of people using apple cider instead, or putting some herbs into the can - just use your imagination.

Leave for about 45 minutes +, brush it with some more BBQ sauce now and then and you'll have a juicy and roast chicken dinner!

I can't help but feel that some of us here in RP have got far too much free time on our hands.

But I'm going to try it anyway.

They actually sell little racks for the can to set in and then stand chicken over the top. Brought one with me from the US.

too bad I dont have oven or grill to use it here.

It does make for a great tasting chicken-no need to cut off top-just open the can.
