They're beautiful, I lived near the factory for years. After a friend of mine burned to death in an RV3 I can't really look at them the same anymore though.

Horse hockey!!! Depleted uranium bullets have to get into your body to harm you. Of course, if they do, you are dead very quickly and you won't be having babies. Blaming deformed babies (in a country

First there was this gun... It was developed by General Electric, the "We bring good things to life" people. It's one of the modern-day Gatling guns. It shoots very big bullets. It shoots them very

Um yeah, if you write it really big it makes the source more credible. Heavy metals are toxic. You still haven't said why you think DU is special. To put it bluntly, why would you bring up your source above in this discussion? What basis is there? Maybe having Hummers in town causes this sort of propaganda; the correlation is similar.

CAN you please tell me what "Drug" you inflict upon you body ???

SO I can avoid IT and NOT appearing to fellow posters as an ABSOLUTE fkn ASShole.

Do me a favour.

I don't get that -- surely -- radical Islamist propaganda sites -- would be promoting THE opposite view...??

OR covering this up...???

Tom

No. They are trying to blame anything they can on the US...whether or not it is real. They come up with stories of atrocities by the Americans all the time on their sites...with absolutely NO evidence (sounds kind of like Citizen Smith's tactics). This story is just meant to work on uneducated peoples' fears.

The truth is that A-10's were used against Iraqi armour. If the Iraqis put their armour in urban neighborhoods, then that is where we went to destroy it. Actually, very little Iraqi armour was inside urban areas, since they couldn't maneuver there. The A-10 is a precision weapon. It takes out the tank and little else. The alternative is bombing, which would have killed a lot more civilians. Which do you think is preferable?

depleted uranium ?

I googled it for you...

http://en.wikipedia....epleted_uranium

Because it has more mass than lead, depleted uranium will go through materials that lead can't penetrate. I worked on the Utah Test and Training Range and the "Warthogs" (A-10's), as they were affectionately called by their drivers, would come in to practice strafing. Whereas other jets, such as F-16's would hit their strafing target about 5% of the time, A-10's would not only hit the targets every time, but would consistantly leave a pile of rubble in their wake. If the Air Force ever gets rid of this weapon platform, it will be a huge mistake. No other aircraft on Earth can do what the A-10 does as well as it does it. Rather than phasing them out, we should be building more. This is a design that is as good today as it was when it was created. Go Warthogs!!

Guess half a million deformed babies in Iraq, and their parents, might disagree with you on that one.

So? They will think twice before they do it again.

NO -- they will not.THINK..... IMHO.

I have a big issue when unsubstantiated or unsupportable opinion is stated and defended as if it were fact. It's just a weakness caused by years of rational thinking and problem solving, if you avoid those disciplines you will never have to worry about sounding "like me".

Citizen Smith
Real men, dont worship big toys. Real men, believe in moral principles. The rest is up to you. So, you going to inquire or not ?

Well I didn't sleep through science courses, for a start. The "D" in DU means ... it's not significantly radioactive. A lot of metals are TOXIC. DU isn't really anything special, except that it's really dense and it can be processed into a very energetic fuel source.

Look at what is happening in Fallujah now............

In September this year, 170 children were born at Fallujah General Hospital, 24 per cent of whom died within seven days. Three-quarters of these exhibited deformities, including "children born with two heads, no heads, a single eye in their foreheads, or missing limbs". The comparable data for August 2002 -- before the invasion -- records 530 births, of whom six died and only one of whom was deformed.

All you need to do is inquire.................. please.

You need to stop reading the radical Islamist propaganda sites if you don't know how to discern between fact and fiction.

What a daft, idiotic comment. What a foolish reply. Pull your head out. Shame on you !

Never flown one, but we do have an A-10 Air Wing Unit, here in the State of Connecticut, USA..Based at Bradly Airfield, just out of Hartford the capitol. They do alot of community fly overs, at College Football game kick offs and Holiday Parades, like the Fourth of July and Memorial Day and Veterans Day gatherings. They sure are fun to watch, and I sure the hell wouldn't want to try to be running from one. Another thing, Pratt and Whitney is based in East Hartford, CT. Every now and then we see the jets, testing their new or repaired engines, From f-16's to f-18's and more, they themselves can put on a great show also. Them pilots just love to push the limits, my favorite is at take off, and they seem to just hit that gas and go straight up, really a site to behold. I'm sure it would send shivers in those who don't care for us....LOL

When I was in Tucson back in 1997, I spied hundreds of A10's mothballed in the desert. I think most of them were already brought back into duty.

Paul

I'm watching a video on the A-10 right now.

It can empty its entire compliment of rounds through the gun in 17 seconds.

That's 1200 rounds, folks, at about 70 rounds per second.

Can you imagine that much metal going down range?
