I live in the interior part of Bulacao, Chi. If I am in a taxi or vehicle, I take the Saint Jude Acres route as it's the only way for vehicles to reach my place. If I take the jeepney or bus, I get off at Southgate Subdivision across from East Visayan Academy and walk for about 5 minutes.

Asa nga used car dealer? Daghan man diri dapit sa Bulacao.

Siguro means maybe, if you want to say, "I'm not sure," you say, "Dili ko sigurado."

But what's hard to communicate via written media is the pronunciation. The word wala has two meanings depending upon the pronunciation. Saying it like wa-lah (last syllable soft and a bit elongated) means left, saying wa-la with a very short and crisp last syllable means you don't have xxx! It's a bit tricky at times.

There are quite a few words like this is Cebuano like taas. Accent on the first syllable means up, upstairs or the like, depending on context. Accent on the second syllable means tall or long depending on the context. :)

Then there are the ever shortening words which are always present in Cebuano. A simple example is halang (spicy or hot)which can be pronounced simply hang. Or sulod (inside or come in) can be used as just sud. It makes me crazy sometimes. I think it's just a conspiracy to keep us off guard. They just decided to change it after we learned a little! LOL Joke lang!

Yeah, I have both Cebuano amigos and my gf is from Mindanao. They both speak Bisayan, but people from Cebu City especially love to chop up the words, which drives the other Bisayan's crazy.

Thanks so much Angie. My wife is not very good at translating Bisayan and I always asking her stuff. I need to learn it since we are moving there in the future.

I want to be fluent in Bisayan like Paul someday. Did you teach Paul everything he knows ?

Daghan salamat and keep teaching us please.

As Pete has said, you can't do better then to take classes from Angie.

She will make it very clear. She can show you the rules to the language which actually is not harder then English IMHO. In some ways it's simpler, or at least more flexible.

Keep in mind, learning a language isn't about memorizing common phrases. It's about learning how to construct your own sentences using the rules of grammar and a catalogue of verbs, nouns, adjectives, etc. that you memorized.

Not familiar with the rules or grammar in English? No problem, Angie is an English teacher as well. That came in handy for me since, although I am very fluent in English, I couldn't tell you what conjugating a verb meant or what a preposition was. Until now. Once you know the "language of language" it makes it much easier to relate the rules of English to Cebuano. They have equivalents which are common in all languages.

Good luck!

When you start learning a language, you naturally translate on the run, but when you start to think in your new language, you know you are really fluent.twocents.gif
