1st Marine boot camp haircut

Recommended Posts

You have to pay for every haircut - mandatory every week. D.I. warned us to not get the same length cut after the 1st. Harder to maintain.

BTW - Navy haircuts  :biggrin_01:

The average time recruits spend in the chair is only about three minutes, and it’s during those few minutes that the barbers make it a point to put them at ease by engaging them in conversation.

It's funny the things you remember. I remember that most of us had a lot more hair than the guys in the video when we sat down. Perhaps now they make them have  short hair before they get there?

The other funny thing I remember, and he talks about it...you saw guys sitting in the chair with their fingers touching their heads...to point to the moles...funny how that sticks in my memory!

I think they do a pre-boot program with recruiters nowadays for physical conditioning and such prior to leaving for boot camp which might explain the short hair.

I thought the same thing, much funnier to watch with hippy hair lol

Mine did that back in 67 - early enlistment Oct - some didn't - was obvious at swearing in ceremony - didn't know could back out until taking oath.

Main point was "don't stand out from everyone else" - weight (told one guy to lose 15 or he'd be in a world of hurt), decent haircut couple weeks before leaving, jeans, buttoned shirts, gym shoes w/socks, no money, 1 I.D., speak only when spoken to / raise hand to be acknowledged and whatever you do                               "don't mouth off" :ROFLMAO:

I had the option to get a regular haircut because I had 3 years of JROTC before basic. My TI asked me which I wanted and pointed out that when he and other TIs were looking at a sea of bald heads for a volunteer, anyone with hair would stand out. So I opted for the buzz.  I've been doing that to myself for years.
