"In the past 24-hour period, the Taal Volcano Network recorded five (5) volcanic earthquakes that are associated mainly with rock-fracturing processes beneath and around the edifice.

"Weak steaming or fumarolic activity rising 20 meters to 30 meters high before drifting southwest was observed from vents on the Main Crater and from fissure vents along the Daang Kastila Trail.

"Alert Level 1 (Abnormal) is maintained over Taal Volcano. DOST-PHIVOLCS reminds the public that at Alert Level 1, sudden steam-driven or phreatic explosions, volcanic earthquakes, minor ashfall, and lethal accumulations or expulsions of volcanic gas can occur and threaten areas within the Taal Volcano Island (TVI). DOST-PHIVOLCS strongly recommends that entry into TVI, Taal’s Permanent Danger Zone or PDZ, especially the vicinities of the Main Crater and the Daang Kastila fissure, must remain strictly prohibited.

"Local government units are advised to continuously assess previously evacuated barangays around Taal Lake for damages and road accessibilities and to strengthen preparedness, contingency, and communication measures in case of renewed unrest.

"People are also advised to observe precautions due to ground displacement across fissures, possible ashfall, and minor earthquakes.

"Civil aviation authorities must advise pilots to avoid flying close to the volcano as airborne ash and ballistic fragments from sudden explosions and wind-remobilized ash may pose hazards to aircraft.

"DOST-PHIVOLCS is closely monitoring Taal Volcano’s activity and any new significant development will be immediately communicated to all stakeholders."

Level 3 now. Some big-scale evacuations and the sulfur dioxide 'volcanic smog' is starting to spread.

Residents of 13 Batangas barangays evacuate due to Taal unrest

MANILA – Residents of 13 barangays near the Taal Volcano in Batangas have started to evacuate due to the volcano's unrest, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) on Friday said.

Mark Cashean Timbal, NDRRMC deputy spokesperson, said the barangays from six towns are Barangays Poblacion, Sinturisan in San Nicolas; Barangays Gulod, Buso Buso, Bugaan West, Bugaan East in Laurel; Barangays Subic Ilaya, Banyaga, Bilibinwang in Agoncillo; Barangay Apacay in Taal; Barangay Luyos, Boot in Tanauan City; Barangay San Sebastian in Balete.

Citing reports from the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office of Batangas, Timbal said evacuees from these areas are housed in 11 evacuation centers. The number of affected families is around 345 or around 1,392 individuals.

About 317 families are housed in evacuation centers while those staying outside and sheltering with relatives are 28 families or around 110 individuals.

Meantime, Philippine National Police chief Gen. Guillermo Eleazar on Friday ordered the deployment of personnel and vehicles to help in the evacuation.

Police commanders were told to coordinate with the local disaster risk reduction and management councils to assist in assessing the needs of residents and ensure their health and safety in evacuation centers.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology has recommended complete evacuation in some parts of Agoncillo and Laurel, Batangas as Alert Level 3 (magmatic unrest) for Taal Volcano was raised Thursday afternoon.

The evacuation was recommended due to possible hazards of pyroclastic density currents and volcanic tsunami. (with Lloyd Caliwan/PNA)

During the last eruption the wife and I loaded up supplies at S&R and distributed them at the evacuation centers in Batangas.

Best to not underestimate this one based on any complacency from what happened just a year or two ago, which actually was pretty bad.......

Taal volcano erupts anew -- Phivolcs

image.png.30839d9ecb2b13a359fb153e765b482e.png

A short-lived phreatomagmatic (combination of magma and water) eruption occurred at the main crater of Taal Volcano on Wednesday morning, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).

The explosion at 6:47 a.m. lasted for seven minutes and generated a 200-meter grayish plume from the volcano's main crater, according to Phivolcs chief Renato Solidum Jr.

He told The Manila Times that Alert Level 3 remains as the volcano continues to be restive in which magma rising from its main crater could drive an explosion.

In the past 24 hours, the Taal Volcano Network (TVN) recorded 60 volcanic earthquakes, including five explosion-type earthquakes, 24 low frequency volcanic earthquakes, 21 volcanic tremor events having durations of two to four minutes, 10 hybrid earthquakes and low-level background tremor.

Solidum noted that it continues to spew high levels of volcanic sulfur dioxide or SO2 and steam-rich plumes that rise 1,500 meters before drifting southwest.

On July 7, some 11,397 tons of SO2 were emitted by the volcano, he said.

The entire Taal Volcano Island is a permanent danger zone and entry into the island, as well as into the high-risk villages of the towns of Agoncillo and Laurel is prohibited due to the pyroclastic density currents and volcanic tsunami that could occur in strong eruptions, Phivolcs said.
