So do they not have to answer to the Department of Education? And ultimately Duterte? Maybe they intend to do online?

No face-to-face classes until COVID-19 vaccine is available, DepEd reiterates

Complying with the directive of President Rodrigo Duterte, the Department of Education (DepEd) reiterated on Monday that face-to-face classes would not be held until a COVID-19 vaccine is available.

“We will comply with the President’s directive to postpone face-to-face classes until a vaccine is available,” Education Secretary Leonor Briones said in a statement.

Duterte said on May 25 that he would not allow the opening of classes until a vaccine against COVID-19 was made locally available. His spokesperson Harry Roque later clarified that traditional face-to-face classes would not resume as long as community quarantines meant to curb the spread of the virus remain in place.

I assume the President Duterte approved this. BTW, this will put the Philippines on approximately the same school year schedule most countries in the northern hemisphere are already on. Hopefully, it will stay that way.

Face-to-face classes still possible – DepEd

MANILA, Philippines — Face-to-face classes may be held in areas with no cases of coronavirus disease 2019 or COVID-19 if allowed by President Duterte and if their schools can observe health standards, the Department of Education (DepEd) said yesterday.

Late last month, Duterte said it would be useless to talk about resuming classes until a vaccine for COVID-19 is developed.

Malacañang later clarified that he was only referring to face-to-face classes and that blended learning would be adopted when the school year starts in August.

House basic education committee chair and Pasig Rep. Roman Romulo suggested the holding of face-to-face classes in areas with no confirmed COVID-19 infections.

Talked to president-owner again and she said school will open July 24.

DU30 said before that no school before vaccine available. Which is quite funny 'cause scientists say vaccine takes years to come if ever.

But things change fast in PI like Dafey posted.
