But I think it would a big surprise to some younger people that electric vehicles are Not new

Manila used to have 100 kilometers of electric streetcar/tram tracks. Not so sure the current jeepneys are any kind of improvement.

ps. not that I personally remember this image from the early 1900's. I'm not quite that old.

Yes ,nice picture and true many cities had and have trams today.I can remember the Trolley buses and as kids HOPED the arms would come off at a particular junction just to see the conductor wrestling with the Long rod to replace them...My reference was really to small BATTERY powered electric vehicles that went out of favour due to (I think) the unwieldy size and weight of Lead acid batteries...

Two lost Chicago icons–a Pulaski Road trolley bus and The Buffalo (1973)

The Buffalo was a true soda shop with loooong marble counter - made their own ice cream (15% butterfat content)  - now located in Buffalo Grove IL but don't make their own:sad_01:

Melbourne, Australia still have electric trams, over the last decade or so added electric light rail to the outer suburbs.  I remember as a youngster in the 1970s that Sydney had electric trolleys in the city similar to the Pulaski Road trolley.

It seems that progress is not always progressive.....

Yes,true...I'm so old that....  My 1971 British to Australian drivers licence test asked the question. What are the 4 junctions in the CBD that you turn right, FROM the LEFT hand lane. (This was so you don't impeed trams ,,,and subsequently get booked.

Attendants? What the hell were attendants? Attendants were people in the restrooms handing out towels.

What I do remember are stewardesses. They had to have a certain look, shape, and size.
