Rawhide on Wednesday nights right after the NBC News. That was the night my mom would get out the TV trays, and we would sit on the floor and watch TV while we ate our dinner. We got out first TV when

I think it's partly the lockdown but I'm so old I look forward to a nap.

Wish I could get some of those.  They worked fairly well.  A lot easier than trying to twist those plastic trays. I remember the coke machines that putting in the coin allowed you to open the l

I'm so old that...

….social media was a party line out on the farm.

Also.. I remember when we used to call my mum's mum back in the UK..  we actually called her neighbour..  who had to go yell out the window to bring my nan over for the call.

I'm so old that...

8 families shared a "party line" - trust me it wasn't

A nickel ($0.05) bought a bag full of candy

Chicago had an electric trolley system

Would walk to North Avenue Beach (only 5 miles) and was safe enough for families to sleep there in summer (no one had AC)

Boom Box was a crystal radio that attached to a metal fence or building pipe

I remember when..

  • My elementary school.. at Grade 1..  had 2 rooms for 8 grades.  By the time I graduated it doubled in size.
  • We used to get the strap at elementary school.. on our hands. By grade 5 it was a badge of honor not to flinch.
  • The "5 and dime" store..  really sold things for 5 and 10 cents
  • The bars in town had 2 entrances..  "Men's" and "Ladies and Escorts"..  by contrast I just read a couple days ago that the new Gerald Ford class carrier has gender neutral washrooms.  No urinal.  I guess that's progress..  of sorts.

So old I put a night light in CR so I don't have to turn on light and wake her up 3 or 4 times a night.

Window between CR and BR.

I'm so old that I remember at night (at about age 10 ) walking a mile or so to a public phone box (no phone for us), in freezing smog filled North London with 4 pennies to call the doctor for my grandmother, only to find that it had not been emptied and thus inoperable...

And always an argument of who was going to get up to change the TV channel.(which was obviously in black and White)

And I remember when the phones were on a 'party line' . No TV then so entertainment was when the ginger head bloke down the road a few miles, rang his girlfriend and the whole neighbourhood picked up to listen in. Was the highlight of the week specially when he got a bit frisky!
