I very much appreciate the references here.  When I get to Cebu, I will check them out.  The panoramic imaging is new to me, so it will be good to start out with that.

The reason I am looking for a specialist in root canals is because I have several teeth that need attention and I cannot risk a bad outcome.

Last time we had a discussion on root canals, the examples given were strange to me, in that in each case the tooth was filed down and given a cap, which is not what I want.  I want the entire tooth to be saved, not capped after the procedure.  I had a root canal done 20 years ago in the US, and the dentist specialized in that.  It took him about 2 hours with no damage to the tooth after removing the root.  If I remember correctly, he used an xray device while drilling out the canal, so he could precisely follow the root.  That was 20 years ago, so hopefully some dentists here follow that procedure and have the appropriate equipment.

Go to Green Apple Dentists. Ask them if they have a root canal specialist. They have several specialists, so I would guess they do. You can also get your panoramic x-ray done there, so you don't need to go anywhere else.

They have to close the hole someway. They used to just fill it, but since the tooth is now basically dead, it becomes brittle and subject to fracturing or breaking. The cap prevents this from happening. I think It might also depend on where the tooth is located too. When chewing, certain teeth have a lot more pressure exerted on them than others...

Not to dispute what you are saying, but this is a bit confusing. If it is the case that the tooth becomes brittle, then most definitely it would not provide a good base for a cap, since most of it would be ground away in order to make the stud over which to glue the cap.

It's best that you have the dentist explain it to you.

You can probably find all your questions about varies procedures and options on the internet as well...

Topic is a bit old but I wanted to share my experience with Green Apple Mactan.

The clinic is very clean and equipment is modern (panorama x-ray etc), pretty much what I would expect from a dentist back home.
Went in for a checkup after not having been to a dentist for over 2 years, they found some small cavities and did some minor cosmetic touch ups, no follow up appointment needed.
All in all it was a very pleasant experience, took about 2 hours, and the bill was just under 10k php, I am very satisfied.
This is definitely going to be my go to dentist from now on.

I want to give an update on Dr. Ricamora. I am very upset about the way he treated my friend and I feel bad because I recommended him based on research on this and other forums. She needed xrays, a few fillings, and a cleaning. She has to take off work for these visits and can't afford that. Despite explaining this and repeated promises from him and his staff, he stretched what should have been one visit into five, and did nothing at all on one of the visits. He has no concern for the time and resources of his patients.

That is the attitude of many in the medical professions there, 5 / 6 hour waits.

As you said, there were good reviews about him on multiple forums. Maybe he's getting too old. There's nothing in your post though about how good a job he did.

One thing we've learned on this forum is there are always two sides to every story.

Were you by any chance paying for this?
