While 94W dissipated and was a non-event, we now got 95W on the horizon. Possibility of a Cat 1 typhoon in Leyte this week.

Thank you @BossHog  One possible track has it over our backyard by the end of next week so probably worth keeping an eye on.

Tropical Depression Ambo maintained its strength as it continued to move northwest toward Surigao City in Surigao del Norte, state weather bureau PAGASA said Sunday night.

In its 11 p.m. severe weather bulletin, PAGASA said the cyclone was last seen 405 kilometers east of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur packing maximum sustained winds of up to 45 kph and gustiness of up to 55 kph.

Ambo accelerated slightly to 20 kph from 15 kph at 4 p.m.

PAGASA said the hoisting of a tropical cyclone wind signal over any area in the country within the next 48 hours remained unlikely.

Forecast weather conditions

The state weather bureau said Ambo will bring scattered light to moderate with isolated heavy rains during thunderstorms over Mindanao.

PAGASA added that moderate to rough seas will also be experienced on the eastern seaboards of Eastern Visayas, Caraga, Davao Oriental, and Davao Occidental.

They advised fisherfolk and those with small seacraft not to venture out to these areas.

Forecast positions

By Monday evening, the cyclone is expected to be 430 kilometers east of Surigao City, Surigao del Norte.

By Tuesday evening, it will move to 350 kilometers east of Borongan City, Eastern Samar.

By Wednesday evening, Ambo will be 285 kilometers east of Virac, Catanduanes.

By Thursday evening, it will be 35 kilometers east of Daet, Camarines Norte.

By Friday evening, the cyclone will move to 75 kilometers northwest of Baguio City.

I'm hoping this will bring some much needed rain to our neck of the woods, the grass is turning brown!

Well, considering your location is in Jeddah which has an average of two inches of rainfall a year, I wouldn't get your hopes up!

This is from Tuesday morning https://www.metoc.navy.mil/jtwc/jtwc.html

A projected 70 knots around landfall would reach the threshold for a Cat 1 typhoon (64-82 knots, 74-95 mph, and 119-153 kph).wp0120.thumb.gif.0a43984da50f68bc466253b12620952e.gif

Invest 95W is now Tropical Depression 01W and our first tropical cyclone of 2020:

01W ONE 200511 1800 9.6N 128.8E WPAC 25 1004

Pagasa has a track somewhat more to the north and east and at a similar intensity...

Notice the forecast winds have gotten a lot stronger: Vongfong a/k/a Ambo has strengthened overnight and continues to do so.

Well worth a watch if you're in the way....

More intensification overnight. A proper Cat 3 typhoon now. Could even be a minimal Cat 4 at landfall.

Definitely more spicey now and expected “here” later today/overnight. It’s still quite calm although starting to cloud over.

And it’s taken until now to get our internet back!
The storm itself wasn’t too bad on Masbate (Tisoy and Ursula were probably worse). Power was off for 19 hours and, as appears usual, Globe took days to restore the cellular internet in our area.
