Advice for Americans getting Stimulus payments   Q: What is an Economic Stimulus payment? A: It is money that the federal government will send to taxpayers. Q: Where will the governme

Read the whole thread, but did not see a conclusive answer. I am Retired living here with Social security payments direct deposited to my Philippine bank account.

I qualify for the stimulus check, do not file income taxes but do receive the 1099 form every year. I don't have a U.S. address or bank account. Has it been determined that they will or won't direct deposit to a foreign bank account? or will they actually mail a check? like to hear from someone who has gotten an answer from an authority or actually received a check or bank deposit,  if there is any action needed would like to know that as well.

Thanks

I was, according to the Treasury Dept., to receive my money this week with no additional input needed from me. I have felt no stimulation from the US. and am rolling over and going back to sleep.

Don't worry, the check is in the mail... or not

When to expect your paper stimulus check in the mail

WASHINGTON, D.C. (WPDE) — What if you don't have a bank account or no choice but to receive a paper stimulus check by mail?

The IRS started sending out paper checks on April 24 and plans to issue and mail about 5 million checks each week, according to Forbes.

The Washington Post reviewed an IRS internal memo that detailed checks will be sent based on taxpayer's earnings.

Earning $10,000 or less - April 24th

Earning $20,000 or less - May 1st

Earning $30,000 or less - May 8th

Earning $40,000 or less - May 15th

Earning $50,000 or less - May 22nd

Earning $60,000 or less - May 29th

Earning $70,000 or less - June 5th

Earning $80,000 or less - June 12th

Earning $90,000 or less - June 19th

Earning $100,000 or less - June 26th

The schedule increases to those earning $10,000 more each week and continues until the final checks go out on September 24 to joint taxpayers who earn $200,000 or less.

If you can't wait for a check, consider submitting your information into the non-filers tool.

Direct deposit continues to be the fastest way to receive your stimulus check because the IRS processes taxpayer data and issues direct deposits through the process.

Check the "Get My Payment" web application to check the status of your direct deposit stimulus check.

This is for people living in the Continental U.S. and not on social security I assume. the question still remains will they deposit in a foreign direct deposit SS account, or actually (god forbid) mail a check to the Philippines. The "official" statement on the IRS website says no additional action required for pensioners without dependents. I am skeptical they include expats living abroad with no US bank account or US address.

As I recall, the Social Security Admin. has not allowed new fillers to be paper checkers in a number or years. Has to be by direct deposit. So even if the irs does not have your direct deposit info. the ss admin. does.

This is beginning to give me a headache. I will just wait and if it does not arrive in the next few months I will deal with it then.

yes, but social security is not involved with sending payment of the stimulation money, it is being sent or deposited by the IRS who on their site says they will get banking and or mailing info from social security. one of the tax preparation companies addressed this question about expats getting direct deposit to a foreign account and they said it was not clear from the IRS memos, but they doubted it. remains to be clarified. Hence my original question. I don't have a headache, and have nothing else to do but ask questions. maybe next week I will have a headache and assume we fell through the cracks.

Headache #1 - So I go to "Check Status of Check" on the IRS website, .. everything is auto-fill on my desk top ( which I used to file & register for the 1200. check) .. my filing & registration was accepted April 14th, .. so naturally I used auto-fill when prompted today for my address >>> "Your info does not match, Please try again in 24 hours"  you get 2 chances - so much for Auto-Fill in .

Yay! I don't need to wait any longer. Because I had the audacity to marry a foreigner there will be no payment.

(However the marriage has saved us piles of tax money in rates and deductions, so...)

Only those with a social security number are eligible. If you have a number you should get a check unless you made over $75,000 last year. Period. If your spouse does not have a number, you will not get money for her. If you have children who have been registered with the US Embassy, they will have a social security number and are eligible for $500 per child.

For what it's worth....

I have not filled out any forms, nor filed tax returns for many years. I started getting social security last year, so I received a 1099 form from social security this year.

On the irs site it says if you will be getting the stimulus payment through social security, not to use the "get my payment" tool. Being the rebel that I am, I used the "get my payment" tool on the site and my computer blew up. Just kidding. Using the tool actually worked and the message says I will get my payment sent to my account (they gave the last 4 numbers of my account) on April 29.

So, it seems social security recipients who did not file tax returns can use the tool. It worked for me. I will update on April 30 to see if I really do get stimulated.

question: to your US bank account or Philippine bank account to which your SS benefit is sent? that's the rub I can't get info on. I used the tool also but I filled in my Philippine address and it returned a reply that said no information available.

I use direct deposit on my US account and for all my banking. I use my brother's address as my US address. It has worked well for me for years.
