The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources on Saturday said it has raised the red tide alert over parts of Bohol, Western Samar, Leyte and Surigao del Sur.

According to BFAR's shellfish bulletin dated Feb. 21, shellfish from the following coastal areas tested positive for paralytic shellfish poison beyond the regulatory limit:

Dauis and Tagbilaran City in Bohol;

Irong-irong Bay and San Pedro Bays in Western Samar;

Cancabato Bay in Tacloban City and Carigara Bay in Leyte;

Lianga Bay in Surigao del Sur; and

Balite Bay in Mati City, Davao Oriental

The BFAR said all types of shellfish and alamang (Acetes sp.) collected from the above-mentioned areas are not safe for human consumption.
