Plymouth Royal Marines deployed on the Royal Navy's £3.2bn aircraft carrier HMS Queen Elizabeth have practiced rescuing downed F-35 pilots from behind enemy lines - at a military base known as the  "crossroads of the United States Marine Corps" (USMC).

They also beat their US counterparts in their own backyard, by winning the Marine Corps Marathon - for the 28th time.

And, after pounding pavements (and the USMC) the Royals also pounded each other, during close combat training - and drums, during a performance by six members of the RM Corps of Drums.

The 42 Commando 'Bootnecks' were honing their skills at Marine Corps Base Quantico, a town in Viginia that is also home to the FBI's  law enforcement training and research center.

The HMS Queen Elizabeth Carrier Strike Group is currently synchronising its systems with the UK's F35 Lightnings, before the huge warship becomes fully operational later this year, during  Westlant19 - an ongoing three-month wargames exercise in the North Atlantic,  off the coast of the USA and Canada, featuring the UK and US allies.

Didn't mention the Marine unit (standard?) - I would dare say the same would happen if it were the Seals - unless  Force Recon

42 Commando Royal Marines are one of three elite battalion sized units which make up the global punch of 3 Commando Brigade.

I noted that the MCM winning time of 02:22:50 was only 14 minutes off of the NYC Marathons winning time of 02:08:13 with it's field of world class runners. Quite impressive.
